Has a job made you cry? Is that a red flag?

Manager denied my availability change
I’d like to keep this as short as possible. I work retail for many years now and I hate it. I’m mid twenties and I’ve spent a lot of time letting my job(s) destroy my mental health. Recently I decided with my own well being in mind and help from my therapist that I would request specific availability. Well my ‘request’ was denied. My manager spoke to me and said that it couldn’t be accommodated and said if it was for a medical issue, I would need medical documentation and it would need to be sent to HR where they will determine whether or not they will allow it. Keep in mind that I am a part time employee. My request was: No closing shifts, No saturday shifts. I thought this was reasonable, many people have requests similar for schooling and other things that they have no issue accommodating. In…
Complete loss of work motivation
I've been following all the antiwork posts and I'm in slightly different boat….my job has killed my motivation to the point where I can now get away with doing very little…this time last year I was highly motivated but then after a long time getting no recognition whilst others got promotions/payrises…I got nothing…my feedback was excellent so not job performance…and so I was left between a rock and a hard place..do I stay or do I go… Now I'm working…no longer pushing myself…total opposite…and nobody has noticed and feedback just as good….I feel guilty for doing nothing but at same time the company has made me like this and still no payrise or anything I see them give to others I feel burnt out and not energised from it all…it sounds like the dream but its not really…also I wfh and sometimes get out of bed late and take very…
Imagine you built your own home. You build it nice and with enough bedrooms for your family. Your family likes the house, your friends like the house, everyone is happy with it. It's cozy and provides everything you need. But they don't get it. You're driven and this 3 bedroom simply will not do. You want a bigger family and you want to host even larger parties at your house. You need more family and more friends. SO, every time you get a little extra money, you build more onto the house. FOrEveR. Like Lady Winchester. And here's what happens: Eventually the house gets so big it starts to need more and more people just to maintain it. In addition to building the house, you have to start building infrastructure and hiring engineers to make sure the thing doesn't collapse on itself. And some rooms DO collapse, taking out family…
No truer words
” Yeah. You know, it occurs to me that the best way you hurt rich people is by turning them into poor people.” – Billy Ray Valentine, Trading Places,
I worked at a small pizza shop in SE PDX for nearly 3 years that regularly stole our tips, verbally abused the drivers and customers, and used “SMALL BUSINESS!” as a defense to deflect how sketchy they are. It took over 6 months for us to convince the owner that covid was airborne and we needed to make customers wear masks inside. Owner got mad at me for suggesting that offering the drivers 1 medium sized pizza per day was NOT considered COVID relief. We had to report all our tips in full into the system and get taxed on them but they weren't accurately cashed out to us even on our checks. One Manager had regular screaming matches with various customers for committing the crime of ordering pizza, weapons of choice included homophobic slurs and 911. Found out that our 4 locations were split into two on paper so…
Wage inflation…
I was listening to the earnings call from my company yesterday and they kept saying “we are seeing added wage inflation from our competitors.” A theme of the earnings call as to why they didn't meet expectations. Wage inflation! Bichh! Nope! You are seeing employees leave or not take the job because you have no flexibility in scheduling and wage. You make people go through 5 hour long interviews, only to be given less then competitive wages. Or, 5 hour long interviews, where I was offered a role and then told it was a lateral move. Because individuals have to work harder here than any other manufacturing facility in town. Because the equipment doesn't work as expected. I was recently offered a role at $10 more an hour. Closer to home. It was a 30 minutes interview and was offered flexible scheduling. I'll miss the people dearly but when you…
I work at a “small business” that wraps cars. In my one year since starting there, I’ve picked up the trade, became the lead installer, and helped double the company’s output. I work 8-10 hour days depending on how busy we are, and have an hour and a half commute both ways. I will preface this story by acknowledging that due to my commute, and me taking morning classes, I get to work 3-10 minutes late quite often – something that has been spoken about and accepted by all three of my bosses. I always stay a full 8 hours, and even stay late to make sure everything gets done. I'm often the last one to leave. It’s also not a job that survives on me getting there at whatever-time SHARP, in fact all of my bosses come and go at varied hours because we have a receptionist who is…
Termination
Hi, I just got terminated by the company I worked for, and the only thing that will cool me down from this oppression is sending them a nasty, sharply worded email. Can you please tell me if it will be fine, or by doing this, I will give her something to hold in front of the law when I will sue her. She fired me because she owed me money and because I asked her for what was rightfully mine.
