UBI is the best solution, and it needs to be pegged to inflation/CPI.

Hey folks, Long time lurker, and admittedly on some level pleased that it's now my turn to have one of these. Our company has rolled out more HR policies, one of which is a binding Arbitration Agreement that prevents you from suing the company from any workplace disputes, from wage theft to wrongful termination, you can't ever get before a judge, but instead are forced in front of an Arbitrator that has a financial incentive to rule in favor of the company to gain a repeat customer. These proceedings are not public record, not subject to judicial review, limit discovery, and generally give companies much more leeway to fuck us over as employees. I declined to sign the Arbitration Agreement, and was told on Monday my continued employment depended on my signature. I will not sign away my goddamned Constitutional Right as an American to seek redress for grievances in…
Make it so paying rent earns you partial ownership (equity) in the property. (as a percent of the total property value.) This will have many helpful downstream effects ( for non-leeches) that will make it so real estate is less attractive as an investment. This will dramatically lower the price of housing. This is politically feasible in states with ballot measures because renters outnumber landlords and real estate investors. DISCUSS
Romcom worthy.
greed at its finest
My boss and my boss’s boss called me into a meeting after denying me a promotion in favor of external hires. I’m in a role where when hired I was told I’d be trained for this promotion along with my counterparts. None of us were considered for the openings. They asked me why I seemed so down lately. Let me know I’m still valued. I told them they didn’t pay me enough and I really needed the raise that would come with that promotion. I told them there are places I could make more money at in retail. I work in a STEM field and the pay is a joke… They were of course trying to also dump significantly more responsibilities on me under the table for the purposes of “training” me for a role they won’t consider me for. They asked me how I felt about the job. I…
True words
Welcome to Wobbly Wednesday, where we cheerlead for the IWW and their efforts in expanding and setting up new unions. And encourage you to be part of the one big union. Today IWW announced that the workers of Alamo Draft House Lamar, in Austin, Texas; have decided to form a union. https://www.iww.org/posts/2022-02-14-dfu-voluntary-recognition/ The stated reasons include the typical fare we've seen from servers and retail; corporate ignoring the risks to their workers, expecting them to work harder for the same pay, pay not matching a good market rate. This following a huge sexual harassment scandal a few years ago. This adds to a long list of efforts and accomplishments the IWW has made in the last few years alone. They have helped unionize fast food joints, helped get people hired back for them refusing to work in 120 degree heat, and punched nazis. There's often a lot…
Unequal pay
I work at a restaurant/market through a temp app. I’m getting paid $18.29 while people hired through the company are getting paid $13 to 15. Some of these employees have been working there for years. Is there something they can do?
