Many in the sub of late have discussed, at no short length, the issue of gatekeeping. Their idea of gatekeeping, though, can often be a bit exaggerated. Let me get the first point out of the way. When someone says “Anti-work doesn't mean some minor change to work, it means a radical shift in how labor is performed and how it's organized”, whether they're gatekeeping depends on one simple fact: When they say “Anti-work”, are they talking about the sub itself, or about the actual political position of anti-work philosophy? The fact is, even if many of those on this sub are not themselves anti-work in the sense of the philosophy, anti-work did not originate here as an idea. Long story short, a few weeks ago I hated my job, loved my coworkers. Not enough pay, I start looking, fix up my resume real nice list all my valuable exoerience and so forth. Bam I get a hit cool, its the same company as a family member, I know she does well. I interview over the phone. Went good. In person even better(I can sell myself well) Congrats hired. I’ve heard multiple employers of mine say this common phrase when trying to hire and coming up unsuccessful while we’re understaffed at whatever menial labor I’m working at the time. I can’t help but laugh and think, “No truer statement has ever been said.” “Nobody wants to work” is a phrase used negatively by people who value work and think it’s meaningful. They use this phrase negatively toward people who don’t value work and would prefer to find a loophole in the system that will allow them to not work but still be given money to exist in a world in which they did not choose to exist in the first place.
