Do I have any recourse?

I accepted a job and signed an offer letter on Dec. 10 2021 with a different company that offered me better compensation and benefits. The expected start date was Jan. 24th 2022. Due to a technical/clerical error my start date was pushed back to Feb. 22nd 2022. I received a call that I wouldn't be able to start then and the next available date to start would be April 4th 2022. I left a job that I had to accept this other one and now my finances are taking a hit due to incompetence on the companies end. Is there anything I can do to hold them accountable for the lost wages? I live in Texas.

Mods: Turn off the “Name and Shame” bot. That is antithetical to the NLRB of discussing workplace conditions

Naming and shaming is akin to holding these businesses accountable for the terrible environment they make. And this is a corollary to the NLRB's legalization of discussing wages AND working conditions. Naming and shaming holding these companies accountable can AND will raise the quality of these companies, or they will die with no workers willing to be subservient to them. Ideally, the elimination of work is the goal here. HOWEVER the minimization of work is a laudable goal to anti-work. And that also involves in respectable and decent workplaces as we collectively figure out the transition to no-work. TURN OFF THE NAME-AND-SHAME BOT!

Pressure to come off FMLA

My wife and I just had our first baby. Today, 3 weeks post-partum, my wife’s employer called asking why her doctor approved 12 weeks of FMLA. HR told her “the standard was 6 weeks for natural birth or 8 weeks for a c-section.” My wife explained that she didn’t need to disclose that information and it’s what her doctor recommended. By law, she can take 12 weeks, correct? I am concerned that if she doesn’t come back at 6 or 8 weeks they will find a way to retaliate or fire her. Any advice?

My job has destroyed my self esteem

I work at a fast food/ retail place. I am one of the hardest workers. There’s so many things that just don’t get done if I don’t do them/ have a day off. I’m one of two that’s always asked to do the undesirable jobs. I’ve been trying to get promoted for months now with nothing to show for it. I Have been to multiple internal interviews, have talked to multiple managers about it. They said we would work on it but nothing has happened, I’m honestly embarrassed to bring it up at this point because they obviously don’t think I’m capable. All of my coworkers are the type to talk crap about everyone else, which I can’t stand and is probably a reason they don’t like me too. I bet it doesn’t help that one of them is besties with the DM. So I work harder than they pay…

Recruiters?

Are they a waste of time? Of the 5 that have contacted me in the past 2 days, I readily sent my resume and requested the compensation, description, and location only to be met by “let's schedule a time to talk.” My background is automation, and my conversations never seem to go anywhere. Would anyone like to explain them to me? Specifically: Why they insist on talking via phone? Why they are so reluctant to discuss compensation? “You'd be a great fit for this role:” and then I can't get a job description? Why they want my resume when my LinkedIn has all my employment history/skills? Do they not value their own time?

we’ll pay you in a week

anyone ever consider if you get paid every other week you’re typically going to go at least 8-20 days without getting paid for hours you worked? could you imagine going to a gas station getting gas and saying “don’t worry i’ll pay you in a week”.

Company still feels entitled to our time.

So my SO worked for a company that threatened to fire her a week before thanks giving because she was having some health problems. They were gracious enough (strong sarcasm) to keep her on but hire her part time. She didn't hear anything from them for weeks, in this time we decided we are moving across the country. They have now contacted her to work some shifts, she gave them her availability but Nope they want her to only come in on the days that we are literally going to be in another state. They expected her to either push the move back or buy a plane ticket back here. they tried to argue and guilt her into it but finally she put her foot down and told them “No, i will not be doing this. i hope you the best in your future endeavors” NOW, ALL OF THE SUDDEN,…
