Boss calls me after work
Is there a law regarding meetings or phone calls outside of work hours? My boss has taken to calling me after I clock out to go over a few details. This is a new job and often it’s just a couple of minutes, so it hasn’t been too bad. But obviously I don’t want to spend much of my off-time talking work. For reference, I work for an hourly wage not salary. Thoughts?
No “real” time off
My dad is an exempt employee for a retail store in CA (LA area). He has worked his way up with the same company for nearly 30 years and is now a store manager. He averages 60hrs/wk plus the time he spends on his days off. Despite his best efforts to avoid it, every week on his days off he has to take calls, answer text messages and respond to 'urgent' emails. This past week during his two “days off”, my dad had to attend a conference call, took 17 calls, responded to 23 text messages and glimpsed through 47 emails because his bosses said it was mandatory and necessary for the business. Tomorrow he is heading back to work after his two “days off” looking even more burned out than when his days off began. Yet when any employee reaches out to the bosses on their days off, their…
About to walk out of my bar job.
I am the only bartender left besides one more who has been given supervising duties so he cannot work on the bar as much as he would like to help out. Not only have I been working 12 hour shifts, clopening, doing 2-3 peoples jobs and BURNING the fuck out, making drinks for a 200 people dining hall + my bar + making less than servers because of their nonesense tip distribution + being scheduled for every single event, theyre fucking cutting my paychecks and thinking i don’t notice ? so many people quit recently mostly because their paychecks were not adding up, and they are constantly “having issues” gathering our tip payout records and before the CEO quit he would catch them messing our pay up all the time. Now that he quit (cannot blame the guy) we’re on our own to try and get this solved but there’s…
how to quit but still get my paycheck?
hi so i recently got hired at a vet clinic but on my first day there were so many red flags there's no way i wanna stay (will list these out later lol) but they do paper checks so i feel like i can't just ghost them or text i quit and leave it at that. i was gonna stay a couple extra shifts before another place hired me but i don't need the job; in fact i kept my old job at my prior clinic in case my new job was bad (the reason i looked for a new job is bc this one is far away and pay is sad but the manager and coworkers are great and it's not toxic at all) i got an interview for an emergency clinic that will pay more and is no way gonna have all these red flags. so i worked…
Should I stay?
I work at a medical call center and I haven’t been happy for a few months, my schedule is also getting in the way of school and life (newly married too) I have a job offer at a school and my schedule would be perfect and summers and breaks off. I let my employer know, the next day the school tried calling to speak to my reference and I believe my supervisor ignored the call, that same day she offered me the same schedule as the school but she couldn’t guarantee a raise. At first I thought I would stat but the longer I’m there the more stressed and unhappy I feel. I fear starting over but I know I learn fast and work hard and that I can succeed in a new job, I also believe working at a school would be much more rewarding. I haven’t responded to…
