As a manager, I need to know if I’m in the wrong

I want to start by saying I’m all for the movement. I give everyone the schedules they want and if someone needs off I give it to them even if I need to take the L and work more because of it. So one of my employees makes a lot. Like way more than I did when I was in his position. I don’t feel any type of way about it I love that he makes enough to support himself and his family. However when I was making less than him I worked way more and worked whatever that was needed, that was more on me and wanting money than doing what I was forced to. I’m only making this point because he makes the most besides me and I feel like because of that he should be doing more to help me and the business out. But also want…

Cesar Chavez Day

On March 31, 2022, we celebrate Cesar Chavez Day, a federal commemorative holiday, to remember the legacy of the American labor rights hero. Cezar Chavez fought for better rights for workers, and showed the nation what striking could do. The process of striking gave many farms workers better bargaining power for better wages, better benefits, and better working conditions. Today, workers have the same potential for gaining bargaining power through the process of striking. But, it takes unity. It takes organization. On March 31, 2022, we celebrate the Federal Holiday of a Labor Rights leader, Cesar Chavez. But, this time, in this moment, one day is not enough. We strike for better wages, better working conditions and fair treatment of all workers. We strike for social change, and because we hold the bargaining power together.

I put my notice in today

My boss would not stop messaging or emailing me on my day off. After I repeatedly confronted them about how stressed it made me, how European countries were seeking to make it illegal (congratulations, Belgium!), how they could just schedule the messages to send when I was on the clock, that they were risking the burn out of their two most valuable employees, they still did it. So I'm taking a sweet WFH gig and bidding my adieu. Employers: listen to your employees, or face consequences that were entirely preventable.

Job interviews -a public service announcement.

(From a grumpy old Gen X guy….) Job interviews seem to have become a case of the applicant , cap in hand, abasing themselves before a prospective employer in the vain hope they will be accepted as a new slave to work for a pittance. All I can say to this is- this is an interview, of both sides. You need to remember that while they are interviewing you, YOU are also interviewing them! Their business cannot survive without the employees yet if the employees know their worth, and are willing to look elsewhere, then the employee can certainly survive without that business. Therefore if I sit an interview I will ensure I have them answer my questions also. The pay, holidays, benefits and treatment of staff must be clearly outlined to my satisfaction. If they fail to meet my requirements I inform them of this, thank them for their…

So, there was a response message from California Senator Feinstein addressed to petitioners against her support of the EARN-IT Act. The empty words in it made write my own response to the reply message. And when I tried to send it, this was what I found.

Pay decrease for missing forced overtime?

Hey everyone, I’m absolutely livid. My wife was just told if she doesn’t attend mandatory overtime this weekend that they will dock her pay 6%, even though she volunteered to do overtime next weekend. We have 7.5% CPI increase and they want to dock SIX percent? I looked it up and it’s all perfectly legal as of the at-will bullshit. I would love it if she had the next job lined up already, but I would rather have her just quit on principle. We have emergency funds to tap but god damn. When she protested they just said “go work at Walmart then.” Is this seriously the policy? How do we stand for this?

Planning A Walkout

My crew (and I) have had enough with a money-grubbing sexist being in charge and taking credit for our work while blaming us for any failures. We are planning a mass walkout in a month or two to draw attention to the issue, since no one seems to believe that this guy sucks. He is a hell of a charmer. I am a manager at my work and want to help. How do we do this?

pretty sure my boss dress coded me today.

for not wearing a bra to work. okay technically she didn’t cus she didn’t make me call my parents to bring me one but i got scolded. i was doing morning stuff and they came over to me and asked ‘are you wearing a bra?’ to which i said no, and she kind of got pissy with me. they said ‘we don’t do that here, there are little kids here’ like wtf??? and they said it in front of my other boss….. i overreacted a bit and told her why didn’t they tell me this a year ago when i first started working here (i also got dress coded another time, when i wore jeans with holes in them, so was also kind of referencing that) cus there have been plenty of times i haven’t worn one and she said ‘because you were wearing one’???? i feel kind of gross…
