My interaction w/ Ebay this week
I have a friend who drives for UPS, and is in the Teamsters. He makes good money. He's also a hardcore Trump supporter and encourages everyone to vote Republican. When I tell him that the Republican party wants unions dead he seems to be clueless. Likewise, my younger brother had a seasonal job at a large hardware superstore that I won't name. Apparently they've done a lot to fight off unions. According to my brother this place employs a lot of blue-collar white males who love the Trump culture. On the other hand, it's seems obvious that all the Starbucks and Apple store workers who want to unionize are probably mostly liberal/democrat voting. Some questions… Are there any unions that anyone can think of that has a lot of Trumpers/Republicans? And perhaps they're oblivious to what the Republican party stands for wrt unions? And are there places that probably should…
Does anyone know a person like this? They want to get out of the paycheck grind, and see the job market getting more unforgiving each day, as many of us do here. But their plan to escape it is to get into a high-risk career in the entertainment industry. So the rewards can be high, but the chances of success are very, very low. Is it reasonable to see this kind of aspiration growing? I just hope he's prepared to get disappointed and depressed a lot more, because he would be hopping from a hard life making close to minimum wage, to a hard life fighting against odds for the very slim chance of “blowing up” in the entertainment industry, when he hasn't proven he's got the right network to help make it happen. I'm just being a realist here, if you want to be a millionaire, gotta prepare for…
I have tried every normal route to resolve this. But now the gloves are off and I am naming names. A while back I worked an incredible 55+ hours per week during the preChristmas season and right up to New Years for this company. The pay was terrible, but i took the job to be near my mother (i had a house in another province) who was starting to be unwell. I busted my butt at this job and often got letters of thanks from the office of the president, and the occasional prize (low dollar value, but recognition) for taking charge of the calls. The culture there was like high school. The Team Leads thought they were demogods.. and there was rampant favouritism – but I didn't care, I just worked and worked everyday, in case I'd have to leave. The bonuses spoken about in HR didn't materialize but…
The long and the short of it is that the union wanted to do a partial shutdown and the government said “screw you, if you're partially shutting it down, we're going to lock you out.” Here is a press article on the issue that seems reasonably accurate: https://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/incidents/all-sydney-train-services-cancelled-as-part-of-worker-strike/news-story/e093c5feb52c89e16927b88641f74258?amp&gaa_at=g&gaa_n=AYc4ysuDFN_UETnQDKLc5-RI7XsrhC-ZPNTGeEM6aBmkGe0qZRRUs6FkWHfAuXg_DKw%3D&gaa_ts=6212c49a&utm_source=newsshowcase&utm_medium=discover&utm_campaign=nonpanel&gaa_sig=owZ26KM1dNN6BKeEzaeYe1jb8NR-_FuEmBe_ry4jb8MM3zqzgt9qqGCQr2V9eTH3zbLYLG7ikVVGuGOY2GUWqA%3D%3D My friend, who is more involved and knowledgeable than me, made this summary of events: “NSW Government goes on a snap strike. Wait… what?? The Government striking, but not the Unions??? Friends, Transport for NSW have unilaterally decided they will NOT be running ANY Sydney Trains or NSW Trains services today, Monday 21/2. I have no doubt that they’re going to go to the media and blame the rail unions. If they do, they are LYING! The RTBU gave notice 2 weeks ago of planned Industrial Action to begin this Monday, including a number of items such as a ban on Overtime…
