Which websites are good / bad for job-search and networking?

I don't “do” social media usually. I have memberships at Instagram, Facebook, a few others (including, duh, Reddit) and am CAPABLE, but I'm not INTERESTED. I am now looking for a job. I have JD (law degree) and current licenses to work as an attorney in two States. I'm not interested in the current practice of billable-hour idiocy, I want a sane employer. To stay within the good /r/antiwork and /r/socialism and /r/union and etc. ethos, what websites would work best for me? I hear Linked-In is just a nightmare of neo-Liberal stinkstuff. I see Glassdoor is sometimes viewed positively here, though I understand it's not about job-LISTINGS but instead is for anonymous comparison. Many websites, such as salary-dot-com, just seem to be fronts for stealing my info and using it for their ends.

Do we have a case?

My wife works for a VERY large US mobile carrier service. They just handed out raise notices for this year. She is new to the position after recently being promoted and was told she is “maxed out in pay scale” for her position, sighting that the company has “budget constraints” as their reasoning & in turn gave her a percentage bonus for the year based of her yearly income. In the last few days, fellow employees in the same position as her have reached out claiming, this is not the case, they HAVE recieved a percentage based raises and NOT a percentage bonus. Wondering if she has any ground to bring a case to a lawyer or how to proceed from here?

Possibly organizing at work – How to make it happen?

Hey all, As with many of us – the office has become quite a difficult place to be. Pay is abysmal, work loads have skyrocketed 3-fold, staffing is an all time low and around half the staff have verbally admitted they want to quit. We have no union so our only ways to “organize” are basically talking to each other on the sly. We know we're all in the same boat, and it's been no secret that profits are through the roof the last 1.5 years too. There's no shortage of “Atta boy team!” messages celebrating how great the company is doing while we're dying on the floor. Current thoughts are trying to pick a date in advance and get people to agree “On this date (and moving forward) we won't be working.”Another idea was having everyone drop off a letter to the upper management so they can see just…

Computer literate employees should be paid more

This is coming from a place of frustration with non tech-savvy higher ups. I’ve basically had to train my manager how to navigate Excel and Outlook or take on projects that they’re too slow at because they’re not efficient with computers. I understand that it’s difficult for older people to get the hang of it. But at some point you have to make an effort to understand how computers work rather than rely on others to do things for you. If we’re having to take time to train leadership or literally do managers work then we should be compensated as such.

Don’t waste my time

Spent two weeks in meetings and interviews for this position. Multi million dollar company. Have a verbal agreement as to what my contract will be, I help write the job description. They start trying to get me to work before anything has been signed. I put my foot down, say I can’t do any more until my contract is signed. Sounds good! They call in the next day to sign. Without explanation, they have set my rate at LESS THAN HALF of our agreement. I ask for clarification; they start in on how it’s a great opportunity, potential for growth, blah blah blah. On top of that they start mentioning other projects not even listed in the contract that would also be expected of me. I am so fucking insulted but I smile and nod through the meeting. Yep, sounds good boss. They ask if I’m ready to sign, I…

There is something everyone in this sub can do easily to make life better for entry level staff.

If you have worked entry level anywhere, wheather call centers, customer services, reception or retail… we all know how one lone karen can ruin everyone's day. we have all been dragged into bullshit meetings because some spiteful garbage person had a bad day and decided to take it out on the staff. complaints about nothing, things beyond our control, misunderstandings or reasonable responses to their bitter petulant behaviour have all affected us negatively. even when there is no managerial meeting or disciplinary or a manager or supervisor had out backs that one time… I know I remember those interactions over 15 years after and entry level positions wouldn't be half as bad if not for these animals. I would like to think everyone here can agree on this? so how many of you left a positive review? how many of you emailed head office about a positive interaction? how many…
