I read today on LinkedIn that the company let go around 12.000 employees via an automated account deactivation at 3am with not further communication. Not trying to justify what the company did but can anyone think of a better and compassionate way to lay off thousands of employees that have access to sensitive and confidential data (I assume) without running the risk of having a disgruntled employee delete or copy information on a hard drive.
I know posting in this subreddit is biased but I’m trying to gauge if this is ridiculous. I’m currently a Housekeeping Team Lead for second shift at a hospital. My main job revolves around getting discharged rooms cleaned and ready for new patients, inspecting quality of my staffs work, and making sure that areas are covered. Today, my boss pulled me aside and told my supervisor and I that starting next week, we’re going to try out a “turn down service”. So my old manager messaged me saying that the person who replaced me resigned and asked what it would take to bring me back. I said I would return for $68K. HR contacted me and asked my range, so I said $68-72K, which they replied “whoa, whoa, whoa…. thats too high” and asked me to lower my range and asked what I am currently making at my new company & what I was previously making when I worked for the company. I then lowered my range to $65-68K and told them my current salary of $55K & I was making $46K when I left. The HR came back the next day with $62K. I just want to rant a bit about a little discussion I just had with my managers. TL;DR: New manager prohibits sharing company food with colleagues and if a have a problem with it I can eat shit and die I guess. Context: I work at a worldwide known food chain involving burgers and monarchy (wink wink). For the most part the place is fine and the colleagues are nice. In this chain workers have the right to take a free menu if they work a minimum of 5 hours that day. In theory you can't take the food home, you have to eat it right then and there, and you can't give that food to another colleague. But we don't really follow those rules, we mostly take the food home and it is normal to give away your food to a colleague if you don't want it. Now we…
I'm an hourly cashier at dollar tree while I'm in college. I work the closing shift and with closing shift, once we clock out, we HAVE to follow to manager to the bank to do a deposit. I feel like if I'm required to follow policy and part of my job, that I should be paid for my time. What are y'all's thoughts on this?
I don’t know if anyone else in other states or departments were told about this As of Jan 19 MD state employees have to DL and consent to a new security system that’s attached to our state emails. I was informed that the app can have full access to your devices, surveillance your device, monitor your activity, and erase portions or all of your devices if it detects what it deems suspicious. I was told if I attempt to check my work email outside of work I’ll have to consent to the new security system. They said it would be a major overhaul to provide everyone with a work phone. I simply said to my department staff until I can be provided with a work phone I’ll only be checking my email during my posted office hours. Hello all, so I work for in essence a “members only” club in Philadelphia (which one doesn’t matter). I received an email today describing how we will be quizzed on “member recognition” and along side the email was a power point of people’s names/faces that we have to study off the clock in order to pass. I’m flabbergasted that my job is making me do homework off the clock to pass a test with no implication (seemingly) Is this actionable enough to go to HR and be like “I’m getting no compensation for doing homework for my position”???
