I was supposed to meet with the HR manager, Corissa, for my interview. It was for a specific job, with very specific hours, location and pay, hence why I applied. Corissa informed me that she would actually be out of town during my scheduled interview and if it would be alright if she set me up with her supervisor, Kimberly. Said no problem and was looking forward to it. The interview was this afternoon, I show up about 10 minutes before the appointed time, let the receptionist know I’m there and she goes back to inform Kim. 30 seconds go by and she comes back and informs me that Kim will be in a meeting at 2:30 (the appointed time) and if I could wait for a woman named Tamara to come interview me. Alright. I wait. And wait. For almost 30 full minutes. At this point I’m all ready…

i got written up for a piercing
this was last year at my previous job. i have a septum piercing, just a simple gold ring. i was NOT told about the no septum rule. i went through the interview with a mask and got hired and started working, and everything was fine. eventually things opened up more and masks eventually came off. no one told me i wasn't supposed to have a septum ring. another girl who had been working there for quite awhile had one and no one ever said anything, not even the manager. a little over a month, month and a half goes by. one day my manager calls me to her office and tells me i'm getting written up for a septum piercing. like WTF. i was honestly in shock but was horribly poor at the time so i held my tongue and signed it, because i knew that if i had said…
New hire on same pay.
So as the title suggests I have recently found out that the new hire is on the same PH wage as myself. The new hire is solely a receptionist. I was hired as a “practice manager” however I very quickly learned that I am a glorified receptionist with more duties. I'm the one that gets all the difficult tasks, my days are super busy and stressful due to my bosses inability to actually manage and refusal to adopt suggested SOP's (I have intrigued one successfully) other than that it's a free for all with staff members doing whatever they want. I need to mention also that they have made me the “hated” mamber of staff as I have to always break the bad news or attempt to change working practices to ensure we are all doing the same but mainly adhere to the very strict regulations in our field (I…
For context I am the General Manager of a fairly prominent rooftop bar in this city. The owner of said bar has set sales targets to hit each month. Now while not entirely impossible to reach he has set these targets quite high and I find myself utilizing partnerships, promotions with suppliers and side deals with suppliers just to try and reach these targets with my own bonus in mind. If I am within the target I am awarded the bonus at the end of the year. Before I came along the kitchen was not in use. We were lacking supplies/staff/logistics. During this time while needing the kitchen the owner also decided to shell out a bunch of money on arcade machines, neon signs and other things that didn't really generate revenue but yet also affected my bonus. We finally buckled down and on a really good month shelled out…

I want to talk about corporatism
I don't know how popular this'll be around here, but I like to think of myself as an ethical free market capitalist. That is, I think it's every man's job to not only make a buck but to be good and honest about how he does it. I know a lot of people have beef with capitalism. I get it. That's what got us all into this mess, right? Well, maybe. But what I want to talk about is corporatism. Sure a small business owner can be an asshole. But tell me what institutions have driven down wages, driven up prices, and dehumanized the entire work experience? What kind of business privatizes profits and socializes losses? Who's too big to fail? Who lobbies the gov't for special treatment? Who can destroy a whole community by shutting down a plant or closing a warehouse? I wanna know what you think about…
What's the point of taking a survey about the company if you're going to be over my shoulder? I have to put the highest rating for everything. I didn't feel comfortable enough, to be honest about my score. Most surveys like this aren't really anonymous if you need a link or your employee credentials but this was a new level of low.
