In an ideal world the ruling class, the government would support the best minds in the world in order to automate labour so people can enjoy their lives. They’d also be looking for ways to sustain life on this planet for as long as possible.
In reality, what’s going to happen is automation will replace labour so that corporations don’t pay employees and make even larger profits. It’s already been happening for ages, factory work replaced by machinery, cashiers replaced with self check out machines, HR reps, replaced with applicant tracking systems and in countless other fields we’re not even aware of.
However, it would be a bad thing for a large portion of labour to be automated because then people wouldn’t have money to buy the products these corporations sell us. So, it’s better for them if they don’t actually automate labour.
Which is why I think it hasn’t happened on a large scale yet. I always say the world is the way it is by design and not by accident. I’m sure a lot of the ruling class will be motivated by greed and continue to automate work as much as they can which is why we’ve been seeing it happen but I think they’re just testing how much they can get away with starting at the so called bottom of society. They won’t do it on a large scale because then they couldn’t steal our wages and labour.
