Had an interview for a luxury hotel as a senior line cook, pretty much would be the kitchen supervisor at night, closing 5 days a week. Was also told that I would have to work holidays like Christmas and what not. That was all fine, since they were offering me $26/hr. I excelled at the interview, met the crew and chefs and managers and so on and they pretty much said I was a shoo in, and I talked to at least two different people about my rate of pay. I have been working in kitchens for about 6 years, and have been in charge of them for 2 going on 3. They pushed my paperwork through and said I should expect a call from HR to give me a start date. I was excited, typed up my two weeks at my current job and was going to withdraw my interest from the other places that wanted interviews from me. I got the call today that I would start in July at $21/hr. I immediately said no, that is not the rate that was agreed on and I have better offers for better hours. I was told it was because I don’t have fine dining experience. Total bullshit, just angry about the whole thing, the wasted time, the misleading. The fact that they thought I would be ok with a 5 dollar pay cut. This is Omni Hotel, an incredibly large upscale hotel chain. They are supposed to call me back with a different offer but I have already decided this place will not be worth it. Im tired of employers acting like they get to decide your worth. Just another story about these places fucking us over.
