I’m job hunting for the first time in a few years and Christ is it ridiculous. I've applied to over 60 jobs and over half require lengthy online assessments in addition to resume, application, and CV.
For example, I applied to be a remote customer service advisor last week. They required an initial assessment to be submitted along with my resume and CV. I got an email the next day asking me to take the pre-employment assessment. A
computer with speakers and a mic was required so I had to go to my local library and spend an hour an a half completing that 10 part assessment. Got another
email requesting I complete a recorded video interview. Spent a half hour recording video responses to 10
questions. Got another email requesting a phone interview. Spent a half hour on the phone answering general interview questions and hearing about the job.
At the end of the call they say they'd like to move forward to the next step and to check my email. They sent me another assessment to complete along with an
interaction simulation. Spent an hour on that shit too. All this for fucking $15/hr if hired.
I have experience in this exact field already with a major corporation and 17 years experience in the customer
service industry. I already have a compliant home office and perfect references. The amount of hoops these employers make us jump through is ridiculous and borderline insulting, then they have the audacity to claim there's a worker shortage or that they can't find employees.
There is zero reason why I should be spending endless hours on assessments for an entry level type position. I actually already worked for this same company in basically the same position right out of high school at a physical call center, it was nowhere near this difficult to hire on. I’m just desperate at this point.
