I had a family member pass away a week ago. Because of complications the funeral will be held in 3 weeks time. Normally we have a process of leave at my work place and need to give at least 2 months notice to take a day off. I contacted my boss to advise him of my family member passing and requested this day off to attend the funeral. He advised me “it’s been hard to get leave sorted so I’ll have to get back to you”. All while knowing all he needs to do is send an email to his boss which is a close friend of his and leave gets approved right away, as he has done for other members in my team for their birthday, lol. He then responded with the “good news”. Once he told me he will allow me to attend the funeral, he requested me to email a formal thank you to his boss for allowing me to attend the funeral on a day I’d normally work.
