For background. I currently work as a customer service adviser in a call centre, dealing with finance.
Couple of weeks back, I applied for a back of house role with investment company, which involved processing payments/looking after nest-eggs etc.
About a week ago, i got an interview with them and was glad to get out away from dealing with people and working with figures (which is the stuff that i like about my current job).
In the interview, They asked me questions like “what is your proudest moment?” and “when did you exceed expectations?”. I did the textbook thing, where I used my current job as reference & source of examples. Finish the interview, believing it went well.
Just got the callback earlier today from the hiring manager. She told me “you came across very well and would seem like a good fit for our company, however we felt you too passionate about Customer Service and want to help people, so we think you will get more fulfilment for working in our customer service department instead”.
I am shocked because i have never had this before, is that good or bad?. Because they said i was good fit, so why not just hire me? Or speak with the people on Customer service to go onto their team?
It feel like at every turn, unless you are an automaton, you can’t work anywhere you want to be at.
