Blindsided by boss and then she asks for me to come back

In August of last year I became a marketing intern for the Dining company on my campus. It’s important to note that I joined with another intern. We were both seniors, and hoping to use this last year to build our resumes. We worked hard, helped with events, and I legitimately thought I was doing good. We were trained under the mindset that when we graduated, we would be able to move to a different university and join a marketing team. My boss told me she would give me a good reference and help me get a job within the company. Spring 2022 rolls around and I decided I wanted to stay in the area. I told my boss and she supported my decision and told me she would be on the lookout for similar job openings. One day, I learn that the current marketing coordinator is going to move to a different campus. My plan was to apply to their position as soon as it opened.

One afternoon I learn that my boss decided to give the job to the other intern. They never mentioned the job posting being open at all. Not only that, by the time I found out everything had been finalized. I felt completely blindsided. She never even gave me the opportunity to apply!! I graduated and started a new job but it ended up not working. I started to look for a new position. Next thing I know, that other intern got a new job and was leaving the marketing coordinator position. I was shocked but just wished her the best. Next thing I know my former boss is telling me that the position is mine. She encourages me to apply. I was gobsmacked that she had the audacity to ask. Like you don’t remember not giving me a chance and now that you’re screwed you need me?!?

Although at the time I was desperate, I ultimately choose not to apply. Call it what you want, but I wasn’t going to work for a company that basically blindsided me. I may have been born at night, but I wasn’t born last night.

All in all to say: My former boss is still looking for a marketing coordinator. Karma is a bitch.
