Boss abused me and walked away

Yesterday, I took my boss to court for physically assaulting me. After 8 years of mental, emotional, and verbal abuse he decided to up the ante and put his hands on me. I’ve been a victim of all types of abuse my whole life, including sexual, so I tend to not see that it’s unacceptable. My friends and loved ones urged me to press charges. So I did about a month ago. Yesterday after a 40 minute trial with no jury, the judge told me that (and I’m paraphrasing) “He doesn’t have a history of this stuff so I can’t convict him.

While he did admit to physically standing up without feeling threatened and push you, I don’t see that he assaulted you. He was just defending his authority.”

The truth as I told it is that my boss choke slammed me and punched me in the face. There were medical reports that confirmed blunt force trauma to the throat and pictures of facial damage taken by the responding officer.

In my opinion he should be in jail. I just don’t know what to do anymore. I feel lost and destroyed and humiliated. If anyone has any advice please help me. I don’t know what to do or where to go but I can’t believe after someone physically assaulted me that they just get to walk away and continue their abusive behavior.

(More to the trial. The judge said “I don’t know him but he doesn’t seem like the type.” The judge in fact golfs regularly with my boss)
