I’m so glad I found this sub tbh. Dk if this fits but I started work at a new place, over summer break (at uni) My previous jobs were in the field I actually want a career in and were fulfilling and paid fairly. But this place…I was brought in as a trainee but basically realised they had no other staff in my department so I’m doing all managerial duties/running the place for minimum wage which wasn’t described in my contract. It started okay but they kept giving me more and more work, justifying it by saying I wasn’t busy enough with my pre agreed responsibilities until they were basically relying on me for everything.
The final straw was when they starting texting me, including when they text me (not emailed, text my private number) while they knew I was on a (pre arranged) holiday on my time off to ask me to help find something they’d lost in the workplace, then when I didn’t reply within an hour (trying to set boundaries) they send me a string of messages complaining for ex “Why aren’t you replying? You are NOT being very helpful. Please be available at all times during the week in case we need to talk to you or need matters dealt with” (This was never mentioned as an expectation before and they don’t seem to intend to pay me for this time) They also asked me to email suppliers ect. during this “time off” – for free ig?
Meanwhile they still owe me the last months wages. Meant to be paid monthly. They keep telling me they’ll pay me and then…don’t… but are paying other staff
I’m only still here bc my family are pressuring me to keep it/“give them another chance.” But I’m pissed off and want to leave. I could survive without the money until term starts. When I’m in work in any job I do everything right and am basically a model employee but I feel like I should be left alone outside hours? The other manager wants to quit too. But I’m worried I am overreacting as past managers were so good
I have a shift right now and I’m so anxious about seeing them after not replying I didn’t sleep lmao
