Boss knew that coworker was calling out constantly for being hungover and I complained with no support – So I quit

My job was hybrid, and my coworker always called out because of football season and would always call out on a Monday and I would have to cover, granted the workload wasn't crazy but it was definitely unfair that it was always me covering for him. Finally complained to my boss after this has been happening for a couple years now and he defended my coworker completely. Saying that “It's your job to cover for people when they are gone” and “That's life” which was a wonderful statement he spat at me. Granted I could understand if he called out once or twice, but this was a pattern and it happened a lot. My boss went on to say that he accepted my coworker would do this during football season and that I should too. Told my boss I shouldn't expect my coworker to call out every Monday, boss countered…

Told my boss I shouldn't expect my coworker to call out every Monday, boss countered with “He has only called out on Mondays a handful of times in the last 6 months” Meaning he knew he couldn't defend his behavior past 6 months ago.

So we both left the argument with neither of us budging, although I asked for him to have another coworker cover for him instead because I have had enough and he agreed to do so (but after pushing and arguing for it a second time). But I knew his attitude towards me would not change, so I started looking for another job. I was moving in with my bf that lives an hour away anyways so decided to find a job near where my bf and I now live and once I landed a new job dropped the bomb on my boss and walked out. All I remember was my boss asking “why?” and I said “Because I can” and left. Felt good to leave when I am a good employee, I complain about something legit to only get shit on and not be listened to. Didn't give an explanation because nothing will change and I will not waste anymore energy into someone who is not willing to support his employees. Quitting on the spot felt good as hell.

Excited for my new role:)

Edit: After argument with boss I started calling out on days I had to come in the office , then he asked for a reason why I kept calling out and claimed he was giving me the same amount of days to call out unplanned as my hungover coworker, but I know for a fact my coworker has called out way more times than I did before I started calling out and getting talked to.
