Boss made my coworker pay $300 after a customer scammed our studio

I work at a recording studio in NYC as a recording engineer. I was recently chopping it up with one of my coworkers who told me a story about our boss that really rubbed me the wrong way so I wanted to get this subs opinion on it. To give a quick bit of backstory, we charge $60/hr to work in our studio and half of the money goes to the owner and the other half goes to the engineer. My coworker (let’s call him Jared) had a 10 hour session with some random rappers. 10 hours at $30/hr. Should be a good day. The session goes smoothly without a hitch and the client leaves happy. Fast forward a few days later. Turns out the client paid for the deposit (which covers the first half) on PayPal, and filed a charge back claim. PayPal sided with him for whatever reason…

PayPal sided with him for whatever reason so he was refunded his $300 deposit.

In my opinion it is the bosses obligation to cover that. As shitty as it is that he got scammed. But that is NOT what happened.

He goes to Jared and demands he give up the $300 he ALREADY EARNED working a 10 hour shift, recording, mixing and mastering for these dickheads.

And the craziest part. JARED GAVE IT TO HIM!

The whole situation has left my head spinning and I’m curious if any of y’all have had similar experiences.
