On a throwaway account for obvious reasons, I was hired last month and started two weeks ago. during my interview I was told I’d be making $18 an hour with a raise after 2 months promotion and another one 4 months after. During the interview he made all these remarks about how well he treats his staff and how highly they are paid told me another girl in my position is making $24 cause she’s so high valued everyone who works for him makes the best in the business etc.
2 weeks in I got to know these people and they are lovely, we start talking on a more personal level and they tell me that the boss is not a good man he lies and contradicts himself fights with staff starts drama in the workplace to try and get his employees to not talk to each other he promises things and doesn’t deliver he underpays all of his staff when he posted the job ad I responded to and his employees expressed their concern cause it was more than anyone in the place was making he said it was a “honey trap” to get me to come in for the interview. He fights with his staff and tells them that everybody hates them. when we injure ourselves he gets annoyed he sleeps while we work even though we need papers to be signed and calls need to be made then he makes us stay late to help him do it.
Well we started talking and it turns out that he pays everybody, even the people above me at least 2 dollars less than me at $18 (the ad said 19-24 dollars an hour he talked me down to $18 during probation with the promise of a raise which I found out was a lie). for obvious reasons the rest of the staff was angry these are people who have been there for years almost a decade, they all one by one started asking for raises or threatened to leave. Rightfully so
Instead of giving them a liveable wage he pulled me aside today and told me that he has to cut my pay to $16.50 an hour because everyone else is asking for a raise and it’s “not fair to them” to pay more he told me I can take the change of pay or leave and even started bashing my work ethic after praising me before. I just walked out but I’m so angry not only for me but my coworkers that were hoping for this raise that are struggling to make ends meet while this man makes $4k+ a day. I went through my contract but it says nothing about change of pay, is this even legal? I’ve never met somebody like this before in my life.
His ENTIRE staff is looking for new jobs right now I was even before this. we talked about just not showing up anymore but we obviously need money to survive
Sorry for the long post and sorry if it’s confusing to read I’m just venting and so angry I don’t know how to put my words together
