I work in a fast food chain in the UK and whenever I work I’m always closing. I close with about 3 other people and we are expected to sweep and clean the entire shop, count up the money from the till, wash EVERYTHING, count wastage, and clean the toilets in one hour. This might not sound that hard but with 3 people and a sho as large as ours, we are typically there for at least 1hr 30m. Yesterday we wanted to try to finish at the one hour mark since we’re not paid for overtime. The boss came in the next day and proceeded to shout at us and said he had been in later that night and showed us a photo of the smallest crumb you could imagine. He told us that he counted 5 crumbs so we are all going to lose £5 off our monthly pay check and says he will be continuously checking and taking even more money off if he finds more. Keep in mind that only of us is actually sweeping at a time and the shop is huge. Is this legal?
