I show up to work at my ax throwing job – I love the job, it’s super chill, really easy, honestly I get to just have fun with customers, throw axes, and get paid. It’s very flexible, which is super important while I’m working through grad school. I should mention, we don’t clock in, we are put in the system automatically based on the schedule and managers can adjust on the back end – if for example we stay way late. Anyways, I show up with two minutes to spare, my work shirt on, ready to go (not that there was anything to do) and my manager says “cutting it a little bit close aren’t we?”
I said “close? I have two minutes, right?”
And he says “yeah, that’s cutting it a bit close isn’t it?”
I just laughed it off, saying “I get paid to be here at 6, so I make sure I’m here on time”
He tried to say something about “I was in the military, being early is on time if you’re on time you’re late”, but I just said something like “Oh I get that, but I don’t get paid to be early lol”.
Like, it would be one thing if I showed up late. Or if the job required time to prep or something. But I literally was early, and there was nothing I needed to do to to get ready, it was just show up and stand around. So yeah, kinda gave me a weird vibe. Nothing against the manager, he’s cool enough, hard worker. But, the fuck are you on about trying to get on to me for not showing up early enough for your liking, when I’m not paid for it?
