broken social contract

Antiwork, quiet quitting, ghosting jobs, what have you are the result of employers' abandoning two unspoken agreements with labor. If you show up and do you work you will be able to have a decent middle-class life. Four people on one salary: buy a house, send kids to college, save for retirement, etc. The second agreement is if you go above and beyond the minimum of your job you will be rewarded with increased pay and promotions. These days, no one is hired without the exact experience required for the job (no training) anyone can be fired at anytime for no reason. Failing those unspoken promises, the social contract is dead. What is surprising?
