Hey y'all i have a bit of a rant, bare with me lol. i work in a adult care center, place where grown folk live at to be monitored, and receive help 24/7 short term and long term. I'm the Front Desk.
Anyways, i got a call from a patient's daughter. the patient was set to be discharged this upcoming Friday. the daughter wanted to pick her up today no if, what's, or buts. told her the main business office who takes care of paperwork like insurance and other personal documents, she wasn't having it. she clicks and i don't think any much of it.
A few hours later. i see a few cars pull in, kids and adults storming into a front of the facility trying to get in (locked due to needing a code pin) and they start bashing the door. all the nurses hear the noise and come towards me. They ask me what's going on and i told them a brief story. i answered the door and the daughter starts screaming saying ” i know a person from upper management has to be there” i told her no. Her family starts screaming in Spanish and some of the dudes start acting tough. i told her ill be back and tried closing the door, but the daughter hold on to the door so i wouldn't shut it. i yanked it hard and then she just walks back waiting. all of the nurses look scared cause they thought they were going to break the glass doors.
i called my manager, told me to call the police and see if they can supervise the situation. just because it was 20 deep of people. luckily a sheriffs office is a 5 min drive from us. so they were here in a flash. the operator said if we need help just wave the hand and fortunately they didn't have to do anything. the family was upset that the sheriff was here. the worst part is we have visitations in front of the building so the other parties are witnessing everything lol
back to the story.. the supervisor of the nurses gets a call from my boss and then relays everything to me. both of us, have to go outside get signatures and tell the family what are the consequences of taking the patient. the supervisor (cool ass dude, Filipinos have no fucks lol) starts flaming the family and a few of them started to leave. he was being straight up brutal about the truth of it, saying like you gonna take of her everyday on the hour, feed her, bathe her, give her meds and the daughter started to cry. i told her, remember what you told me? “none of my family has time to take care of her or to take her to the Drs., so this place would be perfect” and out of nowhere she said “well if she dies she'll be comfortable at home” and that shit threw both of us. she signed the paperwork and the family was gone.
an hour later, i get phones from the daughter but she hangs up each time i answer. i know its the daughter because of caller ID. lol man what a crazy shift lol
