California hourly job denying second 10-minute breaks?

Just started a new job today. It seemed really chill and less obsessed with professionalism as my last job. However, when I asked my shift lead to take my second 10, she told me that I can go but they don't usually let people take a second 10-minute break and that she'll check in with the manager about it. I had an 8-hour shift. I'm gonna see the manager tomorrow when I clock in, how should I prepare for this? It's a food industry job, and I've never worked at a place where this is common practice. I'm 95% sure this is illegal.
