My boss and my boss’s boss called me into a meeting after denying me a promotion in favor of external hires. I’m in a role where when hired I was told I’d be trained for this promotion along with my counterparts. None of us were considered for the openings.
They asked me why I seemed so down lately. Let me know I’m still valued. I told them they didn’t pay me enough and I really needed the raise that would come with that promotion. I told them there are places I could make more money at in retail. I work in a STEM field and the pay is a joke…
They were of course trying to also dump significantly more responsibilities on me under the table for the purposes of “training” me for a role they won’t consider me for.
They asked me how I felt about the job. I said it was “fine.” And apparently that wasn’t good enough. I need to be “thrilled” by my job.
I walked out of that meeting and got a call for a WFH job that pays 12K more a year. I almost cried.
One of my coworkers has a good safety net and she decided she didn’t want to work without me so she’s quitting alongside me. My boss actually cried today about it.
Anyway now my boss’s boss is giving me the silent treatment and thinks I influenced my coworker to quit. Company loyalty does NOT pay my bills. If you want loyalty, hire a dog.
