Venting Gen x manager here, I have a few gen z employees that when they make a simple mistake, will say they made a dumb/stupid/idiot mistake. This is one of my trigger expressions, where I instantly respond, you're not stupid/dumb/idiot, you are very smart and still learning. I then say that you have a learning experience here on how to correct said mistake, and if possible find a way to improve the process for the rest of the team.
So lesson for everyone, never underestimate yourself, everyone makes mistakes, just some of us learned from them a while ago.
