I've been with my company 4.5 years. It's been a miserable 4.5 years. BUT I came here to ask about one specific thing they are doing these days.
We work from home 9-5:30 M-F.
However, our company is open Saturday as well. We used to have a team of folks (5-10) who were scheduled to work this day and those folks signed up to work that day.
After cuts and terrible management, my team is down to like 20 folks with nobody to work Saturdays.
My company is now forcing all 20 of us to pick a Saturday to work and saying “If you do not select a date from the provided list, we will assume you are ok to work ANY Saturday.”
YES it is just ONE Saturday every 2 months (not THAT big of a deal). But what my company is not considering is that some folks (like me) work second jobs on weekends.
It pisses everyone off on the team. Nobody wants to do it and we are already spread so thin from layoffs and poor management. This is just their answer rather than hiring a couple more folks to help out.
My question is, can they simply force me to work a Saturday like this? Are they allowed to force me to work on ANY day they choose no matter my personal situation or feelings on the matter? If I worked 40 hours M-F can they legally force me to work a Saturday? If I am forced to swap a weekday off so I can work Saturday (so I don't go over 40 hours), can they force me to do that?
It doesnt seem right and everyone is upset about it. It makes me feel owned and powerless.
