Can my employer make me wait to use the bathroom until there are no customers?

Without too much detail, I work in a convenience store and I typically work this shift by myself from 3-11pm. I politely asked in the journal we use to communicate if there was any sort of of key we could have access to, to lock the doors during a bathroom break so noone steals. The response I got was “No you have to go between customers like everyone else.” which is understandable except this particular store gets no less than 3 to 5 customers in a 10 minute span. So there's quite literally no time to use the restroom (especially as a woman – menstruation etc). Is this legal?
