can you sue for being laid off?

(sorry if this is the wrong sub for this) my dad has worked for the same company for thirty years. he’s a hard worker and obviously very loyal. they decided about 6months ago that his new temporary position was to train new hires overseas that will be replace his department. like many companies, they’re outsourcing to get away with paying their new employees less, assumingely without benefits, and laying off longterm employees. they told him and a few others that they would be moved to a new department when training is done so they’d still have jobs. a ton of people were laid off when this started and although my dad had kinda been given a new position, he’s still been on edge for a while because he’s constantly questioning whether he’ll have a job of not. they keep doing more and more cycles of layoffs. HUGE company, by the way. absolute piece of sh*t company.

found out today that he’d been laid off. we’re all pissed. just like that, he’s lost his income, health insurance, etc. it’s just him and my mom in the household but he’s always been the main earner (my sibling and i are not dependents but i’m still on his insurance)

is there anything that can be done about this, legally?
