I have multiple felonies, at the same time, 10 years ago. One of them violent but unrelated to any work I apply for. None are the “bad kind” such as drugs, sex, fraud, robbery, assault. Also from a different state with different laws. Would have 0 felonies in current state.
I cannot get a job. There are factory jobs, 12 hour shifts, sanding/grinding, Thursday thru Sunday. Huge turnover, pay is terrible (16/hour). Nope, they don't want me because of my felonies 10 years ago. McDonald's. I was there eating and they closed the lobby early. It was filthy. Bathroom was a nightmare, lobby was a nightmare, the back area was horrific. They closed the lobby early because people kept coming in complaining about the food. I was just the last person. Anyway, applied for a job. Everyone was excited. No job for me though because I am a felon.
Currently I can apply for any job anywhere and get denied because I am a felon. How am I supposed to make money? I apply anywhere. Don't give a fuck I need money. Free time pays 0/hour.
I'm becoming very anti-work because I cannot get a job!
Amazing jobs lost also. Handyman job, making $20/hour, completely in the bag. They even didn't want me to use my DeWalt tools. Would provide all Milwaukee tools. Guaranteed. Oh, denied because I am a felon.
What are we supposed to do? I cannot get a job. No where. I am polite, have tons of experience, own my house, own my car (reliable transportation and a place to live). No offense to anyone but I survive from the disability I get. I am 100% permanent/total from the VA.
How do I get past this? I can work. The VA is good with this. How does a veteran, with strong work skills (military and prison [sshh, they don't pay you when you live in a work camp]) get a job? Willing to work for anything!
There is no staff shortage, McDonald's. I can work there. No shortage anywhere I go, ready to work. Pay me less. But please, I need a job…
