I work at a dental office as a support staff. When I interviewed & got hired, it was clearly stated to me from my then manager, that after 6 months I get free basic dental care
Well, It's been 6 months, made a hygiene appointment and got it done. Come payment time ($320) I tell reception it should all be covered under our basic benefit plan, they pass it off to one our higher ups (but not manager)who I'll call S.
Next day I ask S if she can look into my file as it still says I owe money in my PT ledger. She says her & the dentists will have to talk about it, which confused me cause what is there to talk about?
Come in today & she pulls me into the office & says “So after 6 months, we cover 50% & you pay the rest. After a year, we cover 60% & you pay the rest. But let's not go around telling people that. We waived the fee for you this one time though” why the need to be hush hush?
Well..I found my employee handbook that was given to me by my then manager (she's no longer working here, so I don't know if they know I have a handbook or not) and it clearly states “Effective
6 months after employment, all long term staff who are FT & PT are eligible to have basic dental treatment performed at no cost, except lab bills”
I just texted her and asked if I have a updated employee handbook (and if it was changed while it was there, why wasn't I informed??), as it states basic is covered & she told me to bring my copy in tomorrow & that it will be changing in the future.
Let's see how it goes tomorrow , not impressed 🙂
