Here’s what I’ve learned big or small, start up or established business – they are all the same. Looking to use you as much as they can without any regard to your financial situation, safety, health or well being.
I went from a large conglomerate who treated me like expendable garbage to a small privately owned business who treats me slightly less like garbage but cannot run their business and has me running the show at minimal pay.
I thought I was getting away from “the man” to help a small business owner but it’s all the same. My owner is just trying to get rich off my back and has no idea (nor do they care) how much I do.
The last month I’ve been talking to some potential new employers just seeing what was out there. I’m fucking blown away by the unprofessionalism and literal audacity of these people. I have over 10 years of experience and they are asking us to send in power point presentations to show what we can do for them?!? I don’t have the time to spend 5 hours on a presentation for a potential employer so you can see what I do. LOOK AT MY RESUME! ASK ME QUESTIONS. DO A BACKGROUND CHECK.
I spoke with a smaller business who said to me “I want you to live breathe and love our product 24/7 because we owners work all the time”. Are you fucking kidding me?!? It’s your company, so no I’m not going to live and breathe your company – THATS WHY ITS YOUR COMPANY. I’m going to do my job really really fucking well and then I’m going to stop and live my life. I told this psycho that I have the experience and knowledge to manage my workload and I know how to get a job done.
The shitty part? I know for a fact these companies hired younger less experienced people for these rolls who probably said yes to everything and are going to eat shit and burn out. Don’t let these companies do this to you! There are so many jobs out there!
I’m so over this shit and I think these employers need to take a long look at their values, practices, and stop complaining about labor shortages.
Be a great employer with realistic expectation – doesn’t sound too difficult does it?
