So very long story short, I work at a law firm. I'm a demand writer, and there is a big office where all the writers work in. I've been in this position the longest, and I guess you could say there maybe is a little bit of respect because I went through HELL with some coworkers and crazy managers and never quit because I needed the money. Things are a lot better now (I've been considering moving to a different field because this has been more of a job to pay the bills than like anything related to my passions or goals but that's beside the point), but there is this newer writer that was a former teacher. She is friends with a person that was our former manager who got demoted because she tried to get me fired and had a breakdown when she got caught and threatened our…

I was hired onto this company two months ago. We usually do large/luxury weekend rentals. I get paid 18hr. There are seemingly a lot of problems w this company. I get paid an extra $10 for transportation per day, but some of the cleans I'm driving more than an hour and a half round trip which is more like $20+ in gas. Not just that. Today BossLady put me on a residential clean!!! It is disgusting. Everything in the kitchen covered in grease and food splatters, spills and so much moldy food in the fridge. Not enough sheets to complete the clean. They left $160 cash and I wasn't sure what it was for but my boss said it's for her when I'm not even making $60 on this clean. Last shift I cleaned puke from all over a bathroom and still got bitched at for leaving a few little…
Based in the US of course. We got married recently and I took time off from work. My job didn't care because there is a lot of empathy from my bosses and company for these types of things. My new husband unfortunately didn't get a lot of time off. He was given two days before and two days after the wedding. His boss told him that he needed to 'perform better' to get more days off. He is in a management/sales role. His company has been doing poorly across the board and is even thinking about selling itself. In this economy, the only people that are purchasing what he sells, to me, seem to be the wealthy folks.. not your average joes. So he is still pressured to try to hit minimum sales goals for his location even if those under him are not bringing in money and he isn't…
I've been with my company for 2 years, we recently undergone a big internal change. This added more responsibility to my job description with the opportunity to learn more things for more pay. For a long time the only other guy who'd been there for 5 years, and had past training opportunities on the new skill that I'm trying to learn. So they gave him training first since he would learn it faster. Therefore we'd be less swamped to be able to take more time to train me. We are now at that point yet I haven't got training at all. Heres where it gets fucky I was told that I would be learning this new skill but all the while my productivity was still being tracked and counted against me. On Friday they moved my away from everybody all by myself. They told me that they are hoping to…
He got this employee improvement plan on Friday and had no idea this has been an issue. He takes his time to insure he provides a healthy, safe, and quality product. Often times his jobs take longer due to picking up the slack from his co-workers who cut corners to be faster. Oh and his JPR (Job Preformance Review) was done by a co-worker not supervisor or manager! Is this unprofessional?
Fired for “Time fraud”
So, I have like 10+ years in call center experience and got hired about 5 months back at a 'collections' call center that is a law firm that handles it. The first thing I thought was odd is that the agents had zero metrics to meet. I mean literally no stats whatsoever. Next was the way they promoted and hired, it seemed to be only experience based needed to move around unless they liked you. But, I digress in used to call centers I didn't really care. Things came to a when the entire call center and most the office go on a company cruise. So, I'm the only one left and the days their gone which is 2, I have to mandatory work and from my 10am – 6pm shift: to an 8am – 5pm shift. On the last day I get in late and submit a time card…
I’m playing the lottery
Developing a formula on number frequency. I figure my chances of winning are about as good as landing a 6-figure job, but my efforts to do so will likely be far less demeaning.
Are American jobs really like this?
80% of post in antiwork are about people asking permission for even going bathroom. Asking for permission for that, or go home because you're sick, or for vacations, or just to be absent for a medical appointment, even for going lunch. Is like all jobs in america see workers as kindergartens, like they need to be taken care of or they will do bad things. Here in Denmark if u wants to go bathroom you just go, you see cashiers playing phone games and sitting while waiting for customers, if I'm sick I just tell them I won't be going work in the next days, they don't even ask me why. And I can even take mental care days, and for vacations?? I just tell them with enough time, in my job we even have a calendar where people write the weeks they won't be available for all of us…
In my personal experience, it's disheartening to witness the increasing number of individuals who are working long hours, often well beyond the standard 40-hour workweek, only to find themselves struggling to make ends meet. It's as if the idea of a work-life balance has become a distant dream for many. I've seen friends and colleagues push to their limits, taking on multiple jobs or working unpaid overtime just to keep up with rising living costs. It's not just about the occasional busy period; it's a pervasive trend that seems to be affecting various industries. While being dedicated and hardworking is crucial, I believe that fair compensation and respect for employees' time are equally important. The concept of valuing employees as valuable assets should not be lost in the race for profits. It's essential to ask ourselves if this is the kind of work culture we want to pass on to…
