This is just a random musing. Not complaining. I could get paid more but it's not too bad. Currently working in a commercial plumbing / HVAC office. My one benefit, profit sharing, was pulled without word about a year and a half ago. Fine. We must not be making money. But right now I'm looking at a billing form. We charge $165 an hour for our foremen. They make ~50 plus probably 3 an hour in benefits and we have 10% overhead. So in my quick math, 10 + 20 / 50 * 165 equals a LOT of money. And that's just labor. No materials, no design work, no project management. Even apprentices who make about 20 an hour are being billed at $79.16. Yes, there is drive time, SS, insurance, etc but it seems that there is a serious disparity. I used to work as an arborist, being billed…

All because he got an outdated report in regards to a change in our payroll system that needs all employees to set up our information through a new application in an email sent to our personal emails. My employee signed off on its completion during my scheduled days off, but my DMs multiday old report that they sent him TODAY said she hadn't done it. I told him to let me know tomorrow if he gets an updated report and if she was still on the list, I'd call as this employee prefers not to be reached outside of scheduled hours unless it's to cover a shift. “Man she sounds like a disgruntled employee” No. It's perfectly understandable to not want to do work related activities off the clock especially for us hourly plebs He used to be a decent guy too when we had the same position but ever…
Long-time lurker here, decided to share my story, figured people here might find it interesting. I'm not a native english speaker, so apologies for any mistakes. For a long time I worked in several jobs related to journalism, usually with horrible schedules (waking up at 5am for years), bad pay, neurotic bosses, unhinged colleagues, and so many other things that I could make a separate post about it. My interest in journalism came from my passion for storytelling. Before studying communication, I was always a big nerd and fantasy enthusiast. Since I discovered role-playing games, Dungeons and Dragons in particular, I found something I really enjoyed and was very good at, but it would never have occurred to me to turn it into something profitable, until a friend suggested to me that there were people who would pay for a good Dungeon Master. For those who don't know about, Dungeons…
I've been at this job for about 4.5 months now and I've hated it since day one. I'm doing a volume of work that should be split between two people, the culture sucks, and I get no PTO for a year. There's a ton of little things that make it just miserable and I've hit my breaking point. I'm done. I called in sick yesterday and today because I've had a horrible migraine. I hadn't had one in over a year before this so I'm attributing it to the stress of this job. So I decided to just quit tomorrow, effective immediately. I've never not given notice so I have no idea what to say or what to expect from my supervisor when I tell her. She's definitely going to call me into her office tomorrow morning to talk about me missing two days so it'll probably come up very…
Job exposed us to paint primer fumes
I work in a place of business that is being remodeled (remodeling is being done after hours). Came into work this morning and the smell of the paint primer fumes were unmanageable. Keep in mind they primed the walls less than 24 hours of us having to report to work. Should I file an OSHA complaint? (I suffer with migraines so I left early but was exposed from 8:30-2:30)
work under a toxic manager in a company with a toxic work culture. I work in the AI field, and my manager is clueless and was promoted solely for their longevity with the company. He is of Indian descent. He doesn't prioritize substance; he only cares about image—specifically, his own. Consequently, he attempts to exert control over every aspect . We are seniors but he makes us write sign in and sign out email every day with number of hours spent on each task. Never likes to schedule meeting he just team calls whenever he likes and gets angry if you don't answer. Everyone in the company spend 90% of the playing politics. I have applying for jobs reaching final stages on some. I just got 2 rejects today. I just want to give job search
I want to ask for a raise, advice needed
Alrighty, idk where to start…. I am working at a specialty restaurant, was hired and trained before the grand opening. The 1 year anniverssary is this December. This was my first food industry/serving job, not my first costumer service job though. I also did culinary class all thru highschool which gave me serving/catering know-how, just not the on the ground experience. So out of all the staff I have the least experience and so I am paid the least. Minimum here is $15, average server jobs $9. I make $12, plus 70% tips, 30% gets thrown into a pot for back of the house, which i do not mind at all. Other staff are making $16 or even $17. The bosses (married couple, first time restaurant owners, neither had careers in food industry, but lots of project mngtmt n business stuff) are always commenting on ways we can improve the…
