This is just a vent really. A few weeks ago we had a meeting with our CEO, pretty much every few months he'll visit teams and do a bit of lip service, answer a few questions and fuck off again. He wasn't however expecting someone to have the balls and ask what's the company doing to combat the rising cost of living that's happening in the UK. He fucking floundered over his words and basically said “I think the news is over playing it, the cost of living won't be going up that much” Well today I got my new energy bill because we're having a bit of an energy crisis in the country, so much so companies won't take on new customers. My bill has gone from £60 a month to £180 and that's still pretty cheap compared to some people I know! This is the same month that…

how should I quit?
I'm a professional and I don't want to burn bridges, but also, I am not under contract with anyone. They will definitely ask for me to train my replacement. I'm thinking giving 4 weeks notice using the first 2 weeks as vacation, and the second 2 weeks as training. Thoughts? Also, if you want to add a how to rage quit, I would love the read.
It came to my attention that I'm earning around 8% less than my peers, on account of them having started their roles at a time when base salaries were higher and my salary hasn't increased consistently (overall approx. 2%) since I've been in my role. To clarify: I've been in my current role since 2018 and they joined in 2020 and 2021 respectively. My salary increase hasn't kept up with theirs. I actually know this from a different employee who has since left, I haven't discussed salaries with my current teammates as I'm on maternity leave and I don't know them. How do I being this up to management? When I tried to have an informal talk with my line manager, I've been told not to discuss salaries and that was the end of the conversation. She has since left the business and I went on maternity leave without leaving…
You know what to do
I’d rather run
The love is lost on me, going to work every day for just this week… just this month… just this year… I don't want that. I want a real life. I want to run off and live free, really free. I know I'll never escape the need for cash, but living out of my car or on the streets for a good 20-40 years of life sounds a hell of a lot better than the alternative. My life had barely even begun, I'm not even 20 yet. I just don't want to be stuck in a lifeless life
Same story, different company.
TLDR; Loved working for my company. Had record breaking sales for years (and currently), bring in new management that makes us work 60-80hr weeks; gets 3% merit increase even though inflation is 7.5%+. Need help deciding next step. I’ve been happily working at my employer for 12 years. Sure I was slightly underpaid, but I worked with a great team and had a lot of flexibility. I enjoyed the work I did, it makes a positive difference in the world. A few years ago, the company was sold to a Forbes 5 company. For the first few years things stayed the same; we know our market and had record breaking sales every year. We grew the company with no new products, at a rate of double digits (we are talking about 25%+ growth for multiple years in a row.) The last year however has been incredibly demanding. I have learned…
Another Terrible Boss Story
Everyone has a similar story, but I want to share mine for the fortunate few that haven't endured this shit (yet). Glen was an absolute monster of a boss (about 10 years ago) in so many ways – verbally abusive, disingenuous, always (and I mean always) making sexual comments about women work colleagues bodies behind their back, and even random women when we would go out for team lunches (in front of me and other men). I was too young and naïve to stand up to him, and endured almost 3 years of this guy because I needed the money and work experience for my career. Eventually I got out (resigned while he was trying to get me fired), but he stuck around in a position of power (like all bad employees typically do) for several more years before he finally got fired around the time the pandemic started. Saw…
I work in a restaurant in the UK, and we had a lot of new manager changes recently. The job isn’t too difficult but it pays slightly less than some other places in the area, but I don’t mind working here as I know the place back to front, and the slight pay increase hasn’t been worth the effort of trying to work somewhere else. We had a ‘team meeting’ a few days ago, and one of my colleagues half jokingly brought up the fact we are paid less than a few other restaurants in our area. The new manager went crazy at this girl. He started saying we should ‘have enough pride in our company to not say such things’, and that working for the company should be ‘incentive enough’. Safe to say my jaw dropped. Will be handing in my notice in due course.
