Social media companies make tons of money with our activity and adversely impact our mental health, but the profits only go to them. We basically work free for those oligarchs and end up getting hurt. The more people abstaining from the use, the exponentially more collective bargaining power we would have. I know this would be relatively difficult to achieve, but in theory, we would have a database of names and account ids of the abstainers. Then we would be able to show the social media giants how much free data they are missing, and how that is predicted to impact their revenues. If we are big enough, it would start hurting these companies and give them a good incentive to negotiate our compensation. It would be like creating the biggest anticorporate union in the world.

Used to be very very conservative (mostly because my parents were) but now after not living with them for 5 years I have by now developed my own thoughts and opinions. I completely get the work hate and stuff, and I read the posts here somewhat regularly. But for me it’s hard to really feel that any of the conversation really matters. Part of that maybe have to do with the fact that I live in Wisconsin and probably make more money working at a factory than everyone in this subreddit combined (joking obviously but Midwest wages are so fucking good, can’t find a job at McDonald’s for less than 15 an hour rn). Factories urgently hiring people, 5k signing bonus, insane benefits, 100k/year starting. Maybe you guys just need to gtfo of shit cities? Idk convince me why this all needs to change. Because from my perspective, as someone…
How long will he last?
How to earn a living in creative ways?
And with low capital…. I don't want to be a office slave/desk jockey 🙂
