Hi all, At wits end with my current job and feel chronically guilty about hating it. We're in a cost of living crisis and I'm well paid compared to my peers. I work from home most days. It's a 40hr/week gig and I rarely work overtime. From the outside my life probably looks fairly comfortable. But I hate it. My job is in investment. I ended up here somewhat accidentally as working in the labs pays a poverty wage in my country and is super demanding. Finance let me use some of my knowledge from my degrees but in a job that pays me a livable wage. There are some good folks in the mix. There are also some horrid folks in the mix who are emblematic of everything wrong with the world of investment. Most of the externals I work with are on obscene remuneration packages. Mine is good…
Need help on what to do?
My direct manager, a married man who confessed to me and said that I am too the same for him which I walked away after which. He hold me back from heading home just to tell me that and he he also is doing me a great favour as I am a part time degree student. I am assuming what he meant by great favour is him letting me end work early to travel to school? And put me to do admin work. We have colleagues at my company who are doing their masters and/or degree too and they are have supportive managers who do not invade into their personal privacy with work. I also followed procedure when I received my part time degree offer. I paid for my own school fees and the amount of tasks I continued to do which turns up to be the work from him…
I'm 19 living in Australia and recently started an HVAC job that will turn into 4-year apprenticeship in a years time. Am wondering what is people's thoughts on what is the most viable route and pros/cons as alot of the time College/Uni is pushed on people even though that path is not for everyone.
My department is cutting hours
I recently landed a part time minimum wage retail job that pays well over what most places offer in my state. However, I found out that my department is hiring another person and cutting the hours of this department as a result. I usually work a set schedule of about 6 and half hours in the middle of the day but now my employer can only guarantee 20 hours a week working 4 days. This is the first job I’ve actually liked and even though it pays really well I won’t be making enough to pay my bills as a college student. I just feel stuck.
My day every day
Bank suggestions
Don't you just love it, when your bank says hey, interest rates are rising, but here are some thing to do, to “help” Dont use credit cards to help make ends meet.. Your kids? Meh, fuck em, they don't need to be in sports or extra curricular activities. Oh, and as if we don't work enough, get a side hustle!! Whomever wrote this is WAY out of touch of life.
Passed over for a promotion I’d earned
I was 1 of 3 candidates, all internal. I am the most experienced of the 3. They opted to give the position to the least experienced candidate and told me, as if it were a fucking compliment, that they need me to continue doing good work in my department. I'm too good at my job to move upward. They honestly said this as if it were a positive thing. I've contacted several recruiters.
