Hi guys. I’ve been down an intense rabbit hole recently exploring what actually motivates me I’ve been tracking the emotions i feel throughout the day, and the types of activities I’m doing every half an hour and then doing analysis to see if i can notice patterns and test out different strategies. I’ve learnt quite a lot: eating schedule for best moods, what activities help trigger certain emotions (e.g. excitement, satisfaction), my most productive hours (which is not 9-5) and how I have a few avoidance behaviours that I thought make me feel better which don’t when I look at the data. It’s weirdly empowering. I’m wondering if there is anyone else out there who gets a kick out of things like this. Anyone know of communities trying something like this? Articles etc? The anti-work in me feels like we could use data like this to prove the unhappiness and…

So I (28M) have been working part time for a bank a little over a year now. I’ve never been one to be laid back at my job, in fact I did what I could to help everyone in my department when I was done with my duties. After about a year in that department they switched me over to a new one with an entirely different role and a boss that treats me like dirt and is hellbent on micromanaging me. Shes accused me of being lazy in my other dept because she’s seen me talking to someone next to me on a few occasions and says that is stealing time. I told her afterwards that she’s never worked with me before and therefore has no right to accuse me of not doing my job and her response was something like “perception is reality.” So we’ve trained on all…

If a job is aware that it’s your only income or choice they’ll dog you out, so just act like you have everything together and it’s a favor for you to work there, don’t ever tell a job you need them, don’t beg for extra hours just simply say “ hey I have some free time available if you need me to come in I can probably help out” stand up for yourself.
What would you guys do if your paycheck was short $53? Not sure if I should go directly to my employer about this or reach out the state department of labor.
I’m interested to get your thoughts on this because this is completely new to me. The company I work for is four days a week and 10 hour shifts. Voluntary overtime on Fridays and Saturdays. They provide a decent amount of PTO and sick leave at the beginning of the year, regardless of how long you’ve been an employee there. 80 hours PTO, 40 hours sick time, 40 hours floating holiday, and 40 hours of holiday pay. You can also not use any of it and roll it into the next year and have double that. Here’s the kicker though, if you call off, even for one day, you must use PTO or come in on a Friday to “make up the hours.” If you do neither, you’re disciplined (i.e., verbal warning, write up, etc). When I first started I didn’t think much of it. But once you see your…
