They use court appointed slaves to run a religious institution. If you get a drug charge the judge has the option to give you community service vs jail. This is usually at their discretion. So what we end up having is people with drug problems becoming constitutionally sanctioned slaves working for a religious institution of a judges choice. The drug issue isn't fixed, the religious right get slaves, and the religious right gets more money to fund their agendas. It always magically comes down to slavery, folks. The 13th amendment allows for slavery under these circumstances. So as long as that exists, slavery will exist, and the prison industrial complex will exist.

I work in a company which pretty much has offices all around the world, and guess which workers don't get paid maternal leave and guaranteed holidays? Yeah, the ones who live in the US. I live in Europe so just 6 months in my job, I just put my 5 week summer vacation (2 weeks of earned vacations from 6 months of work and 3 weeks of paid fathernal leave) application letter in today and it was approved in 15 minutes. The vacation time even has higher salary thanks to holiday bonuses. But not for US workers.

I'm finally making the plunge and quitting my toxic job, and it's all thanks to you guys and your motivating posts. It's a small business of maybe 30 people now thanks to half the company being laid off courtesy of Covid, so you know what that means: Overwork the employees you still have, not hire new ones. Make them all do 3 peoples' (minimum) worth of jobs for the same pay. Raises cost money, why would they do those? I have a whole list of grievances against this place. I'm trying to decide when to turn in my 2-weeks' notice. I'm thinking soon, but it's been hellish to find a part-time gig to pay the bills to jump to. Preferably easier entry-level remote like data entry without phones, if anyone has any suggestions on employers with souls that are hiring? I want to regain some of my sanity before I…
