I’m a 25m. I have two jobs, one of them’s at a local Subway. Yesterday, near the start of my shift, I helped an older man get his sandwich together and charge him out. Once at the register, he commented about how he always sees new people at this location. “People don’t really last at this store, I always see new people when I come in. What is it, do people not want to work anymore?” Slightly taken aback and annoyed by his phrasing, I replied, “I just don’t think this place pays enough to want to work for, if I’m being completely honest.” Not info I shared with him, but we make $7.75/hour. Right away, he flipped the script and began to agree with me. Told me about how he talked to another younger person the other day about how much they were making and he says he told…

I live in NC. Are we hopeless?
I want to start a union. I've started doing preliminary work and I've contacted Workerorganizing.org. NC is a god-forsaken “right-to-work” state. I learned that the biggest takeaway from that is that collective bargaining is forbidden. From what I gather, there's not much we could do without that power. We could strike, but that is going to be a hard sell. Do you think it's even worth it? Working in NC sucks.
Lower pay – But possibly promoted soon?
Hi All, I need your help with something I have been thinking about for a few days already. As part of structure changes my role has been terminated(In a way) and I have been reassigned to a different department but it's basically just a different manager with the same job but with a bit of extra responsibility actually. As part of this exciting change I'm on the path to be trained to be team lead (by my new manager) and depending on how i perform they might promote me next year. The kicker of this whole ordeal is that I got a 15% pay cut with this department change. I don't plan to take on any additional extra work until I get at least my 15% back + whatever for a new role. The question is – how would you handle it? How would you discuss it with your Manager?
Is $14/hr an insult or is it just me?
Hey all, just wanted to get an opinion real fast. My GF currently works at a fast food joint making $16/hr which is the cap out there. She wants to move more into restaurant work, she enjoys food service in general. She applied at a local Applebee's and they wanted to pay her $14/hr to “test out” as a line cook. She is more interested in the manager aspect and has experience, around 9 years managing a McDonalds. I told her never to take a position that pays you less than what you currently make no matter what, as you would be climbing down the corporate ladder and not up. She says that she was taught that you have to start out with crap wages and “earn your spot” but that seems incredibly old world to me. She asked for $16/hr at that position and they said no, so she…
Groupchat troubles
Hey y'all I work for a popular fast food place and they deleted our crew app so my coworkers got the bright idea to create a new app for us to use as a groupchat, GroupMe. Now I wasn't even into the original app so I don't know why I even joined but whatever point of the story is I did. Well last night one of my coworkers left me in the window by myself for an extended period of time and when she came back she was speaking so loudly that I couldn't hear the customers (also she was getting in my personal space and constantly telling me how to do my job which caused me to lose my focus and have to remake a diet and regular Pepsi” so naturally I told her “please stop you're being too loud and I'm overstimulated as all insert bad word!” Anyways…
Help regarding CV please
I have been trying to search for jobs for quite some time now, but my CV never gets selected. I am not sure what the issue is, but I am sure that there is some issue with how I have made my CV as I cannot get interview calls for any kind of jobs no matter the qualifications. I need help regarding selecting a CV writer, but I do not know which website/ service/ person would be good. While I do know that I should prepare my CV myself, I do not have the time and energy due to how stressful my current project is. Please suggest a CV writer service/ website/ person that I should use to improve my CV. I am from India with approx 1 year of work experience at post graduate level if that might be useful in making suggestions.
Sign in the restroom at my work
I just thought about how a co-worker would get sick recently and they would ask him for a doctors note. If he didn’t provide the note would he not get paid sick hours?? I’m curious cause what if 1 day I just have a bad cough/nose and want to call off for sick hours, am I gonna have to go get some doctors notes to prove I was sick and get money.
I'm absolutely NOT trying to detract from veterans etc, or create some sort of suffering olympics. It's just my feelings/perspective. My last job treated me so poorly, I can barely bring myself to talk about it. In summary, they bullied, blamed, lied a LOT, kept me there under false pretences, and then fired me without cause literally a day before I reached 2 years (UK people will know why that's horrible). I took a break, and now I'm about to start a new job. I'm shaking in bed because I think my fears it'll be like the old job are coming back up. I can't control my reaction and I know I sound whiney. I'm not sure what I'm seeking here. Understanding? Reassurance? Strength? I feel like I'm going to lose all control of my life again.
