I worked for a bus company for 2 years. They were pretty fast and loose and I've posted about some of the more outrageous incidents before. Late last year I took extended leave to look after a sick relative, and the last thing anyone from the company said to me was “we're keen to have you back in the new year when you're settled”. I later found out the company lost the contract for my route, and no one ever contacted me about starting back, so when I was offered a new job once I was available, I took it. My point is I left on good terms, was not fired, just kinda became informally redundant. Anyway, my issue is this, back when I started with them, they had me pay $70 for a fob that electronically allowed access to the vehicles. I had a problem with this at the…
Category: Antiwork
I work at a fast food chain. I just found out today that one of my coworkers spent 7 years in prison for possession of cp and admitted to molesting 2 young children. I saw the court documents, he had been doing it for 10 years and just recently (within the last few years) got out of prison. Management lets him be alone with minors. I’m sick to my stomach and will be quitting tomorrow. Am I overreacting or does anyone else think this is a disgusting show of a lack of empathy and morals on the managers part
We have the same position and in-fact he is my senior technically. Ive been struggling with the Idea of telling him that my pay dwarfs his. I actually don’t like this person at all. He is mean, bitter, disrespectful, dismissive, and has an old head attitude “set in his ways” But he has a big family….kids, grandkids, etc. He simply is not paid what he is worth tho, he should be making at least $5/hr more. Now I like to think im a good person but I am really struggling with this, please convince me to tell him. Wwyd?
Mn wage deduction
Minnesota to get that out of the way, and also sorry for mobil formatting. My ex employer gave me a loan before a medical procedure that left me unable to walk much for months to help me when I wouldn't be able to work. We had a verbal agreement where x ammount would be paid every month after i was able to work again. At some point after coming back to work I verbally asked them to change it to y which was less, but per check(paid every 2weeks) to help it go faster. I have currently 1/3 of the loan paid off. Early May I put in my notice because I kept getting new responsibilities, moved to cover other peoples slacking, and just dealing with no real feeling of their own accountability or recognition/appreciation/raise for helping outside of my own duties. I submitted my two weeks notice and even…
In Praise of the 70 Hour Workweek
Boss is ignorant
Mostly a rant, So i work in a field that requires high degrees, in most cases if you don't have a PhD you are doing mostly manual labour and nothing more. In my work place they decided to do the opposite, the founder has no formal education on the subject, and the acting manager with the most seniority (not discounting her at all) has a master's degree, but seems she hasn't had much additional education in the last 10 years. Yesterday they were arguing with me about something basic that i learned in bachelor's. Two processes that have the same name, but they are completely unrelated. (Think or a term like “activation” that can be used in a myriad of unrelated things). Even though i told them it's unrelated and just a waste of time and money, they are doing it anyway. This is akin to painting your car red…
Thanks for the review
My 3 months notice ends tomorow. To be fair, since they didn't find any replacement, I offer to take the entire week to write a document about how to perform my job, since I'm litterally the only one in the office who currently knows how to do it. My 2 managers agreed, my first one even telling me to stop my other tasks (that I wouldn't have time to finish before tomorrow anyway) and focus on that document. But my director, the higher in the company, is going absolutly nuts. He is constantly coming back and forth, giving me new files to analyse, new clients to phone, new websites to complete, etc… needless to say, he seems to be just realizing the amount of work I was providing, and is really scared about the future potential fallout. I'm really divided between finishing my document and not doing any of the…
I was thinking anitwork would be a good sub to finding this kind of job without any bullshit. I have to best internet I can buy locally, a phone and a high end computer. Is there anything i can do for extra money or is this just wishful thinking? Also, I will have a full time job outside of this FYI.
