Thanks r/antiwork

18 months ago I found this subreddit and began questioning my devotion to my job. Between the uplifting stories & war stories from shithole employers, I re-examined my life. I took a shot at some jobs out of state, on the upper end of my perceived reach, interviewed very well much to my surprise, and came away with 3 offers from very respected employers. I’m coming up on a year with my new employer, joined one of the shop unions with no hesitation and constantly have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming because of how drastically different my work/life balance is. Gone are the 70hr weeks just to make ends meet, gone are texts and phone calls from the company owners holding my job over my head if I don’t cater to their every need, gone is overwhelming uncertainty of each work week. Thanks for reading, thanks…

Shooting survivor thread?

EDIT- I mean subreddit, not thread. (Other other online community) Hi all, sorry for the red herring post. I am a grad student at MSU and am in need of support from other survivors/affected community members (from other cities/schools). This sub has always seemed to have similar values to me and I think I would trust your insights. I have tried looking myself but the threads tend to be more investigative/fetishizing of mass shootings. Any suggestions welcome. Side note— I am in therapy. There is group therapy on campus but I did that before the shooting and did not find it helpful as I have a low social battery. TIA

I don’t want to put my 2 weeks in

I want to quit instead but my parents want me to put my 2 weeks in. What lie can I tell them to explain not going to work for the next few weeks? I have a job lined up that I start in like 2 weeks and they know that bit

Never thought I’d say this, but I might miss corporate America.

The boss installed a ring camera a few weeks ago and I just saw it briefly turn on…

A few weeks ago the boss installed a Ring camera and told no one anything about it (I saw them install it). It's directly over the registers and there are normal security cameras all around the shop and ones a metre away from the new ring. I was serving a customer and I saw that bright blue light turn on, which means someone's watching through it? Instantly felt gross, like I was being spied on, like my privacy had been invaded, like I can't be trusted. Legally I know I probably don't have any expectations of privacy since this is a private business, but it's so gross knowing my boss (or even the managers, they're all tightknit middle aged women) can go back through videos and spy on our conversations or watch how we've been working. This place used to be so good too, it used to be so relaxed…

Return to the office, for your own good

I just love how much CEOs care about career development for their WFH subordinates. “Many leaders assert more in-person experiences can, among other things, provide better career development for the youngest and newest employees.” – CNN However, the article does go on to say that CEOs could create a culture that includes and provides opportunities for WFH employees. But it's not about that is it? Original article: https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2023/05/23/success/hybrid-remote-work-younger-employees-career-development/index.html
