Im going to ask my boss for a $3 raise for my whole department (6 people), any tips?

My boss (office manager) is very stingy, we wash sponges before we buy new ones. Our current wage is $15, Id like to ask to raise it to $18 as the average rent in our (tourist) town is at least $1600 My current argument goes a little like: -we have more responsibilites now such as xyz -60% of jobs in the area pay more than $17.50 -here are similar jobs to us paying $18+ -$18 would at least make about double rent every month I want to lean heavily into the “our workers deserve to be able to live here and deserve a living wage” but I know it comes down to dollars and cents so.. (I will not be leaving this job, even to go to a higher paying one. The location and schedule are unbeatable for me but I know we all deserve more) Any tips appreciated, thanks…

Sick of it all

I have nothing productive to contribute. I just want to vent. I'm sick of getting the fuzzy end of the lollypop at work. I'm actively applying and am waiting for my turn to jump ship. It seems like we're losing somebody every couple of weeks and management isn't doing anything to stop the hemorrhage or even hire replacements. Those of us remaining are expected to pick up the slack of those who were lucky enough to get out. It gets old. My immediate supervisor is a dream. That's the one thing keeping me going.

You all gonna love this . I am just lost for words at this point

Before I start English is my 3rd language but I do work in US and i am a citizen. I am working in a place for over 5 years atm . It is a huge bis with many many locations worldwide and we have locations in US as well. I started out working there thx for knowing the actual owner thx to my family . I was hired never got promoted btw in my job. But i paid i guess alright nothing crazy but decent for hours i work. I only work 37 hours a week with 2 days off. But over years i feel this place always wanted to get rid of me prob due to my salary which isnt mega high but above average than what they prob would want to pay . But thx to my family connections they are not allowed to fire me . But…

Very Disheartening

A former coworker of mine, who was my supervisor when I started at my hospital job 20 years ago, was recently let go. She had moved into another position where she had to work with insurance companies to get referrals for a specific test related to our field. Someone was mad she was still being paid for her clinical position (same as mine) even though she was not working in that position, disregarding the fact that her clinical experience was how she was able to explain and get referrals/reimbursement from insurance companies. So, then they decided to move this specific referral job to some main referral center in the system. With no warning, no severance, nothing, they let her go. She'd been with the system for THIRTY years! She's working now because her former boss (not the one who made decision to let her go, but her direct boss) felt…

Do you find a pay raise of +$1/hr insulting?

I recently asked for a raise At my full time job. (I work in the trades) we’re short handed and the wage just isn’t livable (by todays standards especially.) They gave me another dollar which i accepted, but I was hoping for at least 2 or 3+ more an hour. Obviously it’s old news that companies really just don’t value your time. I just hyped myself up thinking it would be different this time and they would actually pay me a decent wage. When I was hired they gave me the whole “after 90 days we can see about bumping you up etc” speech but nothing came on day 91. A dollar just seems so insincere to me. And they always make it seem like they’re stretching themselves so thin for another 40 dollars (before taxes) a week. Like what am I supposed to kiss your ring and bow to…
