A friend of mine who I was talking to about this mentioned that I should make a post here, figured it'd be worth a shot. Apologies for formatting, on mobile. So, at the moment I'm currently in college as a sophomore. The spring semester just ended and I figured I'd take a couple classes and get a part time job over the summer, make some money and all that. After applying all over the place I got a job at Jimmy Johns as a delivery driver. During the interview I was more or less fast tracked (Didn't discuss hours, pay, aside from mentioning I can't work Wed/Thurs, I've got some social anxiety and was initially just happy to be hired) During the interview I was told that I'd also be working in store when deliveries are slow, I figured that's fine, it makes sense. Right off the bat, I get…

I recently got hired for a new job, it has been a struggle with rising costs, I have no family or other means of help, and have a small boy to take care of as a single-mother, so it's been incredibly hard to find a job after I was laid-off my previous one that couldn't handle the long-term damage from the covid times anymore. We didn't even get two weeks warning before they pulled the plug. I ended up finally getting a new job recently, especially after not hearing back from any of the social services yet I applied for, including Unemployment. I was relying on my now empty savings. I guess this is a consequence of my location being in the southern United States though that's not really my fault, but I'm guessing either a lot of people are on these same programs down here, or people are abusing…
https://www.cbc.ca/news/gopublic/tattleware-privacy-employment-1.5978337 last October, after being on the job for about six weeks, her boss at the cleaning company sent out a companywide message — telling employees to download an app on their personal phones that would check their location and ensure they were working their scheduled hours. Dionne found the request offensive and refused. “I was at the school working so that I could provide for my son,” she told Go Public. “We're not thieves. We don't need an ankle monitor.” Less than two months later, the single mom was fired — her refusal to download the app was mentioned in her letter of termination. —————————– She should have learned to code, captured the data being sent by the app, then fake that data with her own app, and then quite quit until they get complaints that the bathrooms aren't clean. She can point to the app data and say,…
Yet another out of touch article about poor people having only themselves to blame. points 1 and 5 do make sense, the rest is a load of crap.

For reference I’m 30, in my first job in a new field (but have been working for 11ish years). My boss/owner of the company is younger than me, and was handed this company by her mom. Our work hours are 9-5, I have been getting there at 8:55, all I do is put my lunch in the fridge (it maybe takes a minute). I completed a task at 4:55 and didn’t see the need to pretend to work for 5 minutes. There wasn’t a single task for 5 minutes I could complete. I don’t like starting something I’m not going to finish or make a decent headway on at the end of the day. I have ADHD, it just doesn’t work for me. Everyone else but the boss, the other new guy & me had gone for the day. Some work different hours, one left early to take a client…
