This sounds like such a great offer
Dodged a bullet
I had an interview with a company three weeks ago for a desktop support position. I've worked in data centers on server hardware, I've been a system Admin, and I've done desktop support in the past. The guy interviewing me was a good 25 minutes late to that interview. They got back to me a week later saying I was overqualified for the position and that they had chosen another candidate. They reached out to me early last week about interviewing for a similar position (still in the it support realm). I said why not and had scheduled the interview. My work ended up running way over and I missed the interview time. Had no further contact from anyone in that company, until today. I get a call today, I screen it first then decide to answer it since I didn't recognize the name but it was regarding an interview.…
“Minimum” is just a word
I am so tired of this
How long must this go on? How many more people need to lose their job and have the means to survive stripped from them? How many people need to make the choice between medication and getting a full weeks worth of groceries because the pay check just can’t be stretched to cover both fully. How long do we have to listen to rich assholes tell us “cut out Netflix and coffee and you’ll stop being poor.” Cause apparently only rich people deserve to watch tv. The stress of my job landed me in the hospital last year. To put it simply my body was producing too much stomach acid and was eating holes in my stomach and esophagus. I’m 24 and I was making $17.30 (which I used to think was pretty good for my age. I know better now). With the cost of the medicine I now take, and…
Third year Business student at a Canadian University. For the most part I have enjoyed my degree but on many occasions run into hardcore capitalist content being taught to unsuspecting students by profs that happily lip smack the a** cheeks of Adam Smith, Porter, Ford etc… Today Im catching up on my Economics of Unions lectures but ended up venting to Reddit when I heard my prof and saw his video lectures. I care about this content because unions are one of the ways workers stand a fighting chance against corporate greed. My prof clearly does not give a s***. His lecture open is in a poorly lit 480P room with “unions” written on the too-small whiteboard behind him. Opening remarks: “howdy folks, sorry to be late, (three weeks late posting video lectures) this is Economics of unions, forget the number (the course code) um… COVID and all… ya know…”…
NEW: At Facebook’s external content moderation facility in Africa, employees describe traumatic working conditions, alleged union-busting, and pay as low as $1.50 per hour, my investigation found. 🧵Thread (1/)https://t.co/wGHOVWVfyM— Billy Perrigo (@billyperrigo) February 14, 2022
A group of waiters are rallying up infront of the capitol building in San Juan and in front of restaurant locations calling waiters to not go to work today on Valentine's day. They are asking that the governor eliminates sub salaries, a move that will force all employers of tipped workers to pay them minimum wage. This comes after weeks of similar protests by public workers which resulted in a recent increase of $1000 per month for local school teachers in the island and a $250 increase for firemen. This last saturday 80% of paramedics in the island were abscent from work as protest. The police is in talks of going on strike as well after the governor infamously said “no one is forcing anyone to be a cop” when asked about policemen salaries. It is a time of change in Puerto Rico.
Does anyone else cry when job hunting?
I’m sitting here uncontrollably bawling as I try to force myself to apply for jobs I know will make me miserable and unable to do anything else with my life. I’ve been unemployed for 6+ months and I’m still just as burnt out as the day I quit. I don’t know what I’m going to do. I need to pay rent and I’m supposed to be my best friends maid of honor next month, but I have 8 dollars to my name. This is tearing me apart. If I have to work another customer service job, I will have a full on breakdown, I know that for a fact.
