How to quit your job and still get unemployment: the method that worked for me

After reading the post about folks who are crying before and after their jobs (as was/am I), I wanted to take the opportunity to share with others how I managed to quit my job and still receive unemployment payments while looking for another one. This takes some finesse, awareness of your labor rights, and unfortunately it may not work for everyone. However, if you are desperate and planning on quitting anyway, or on the verge of quitting, I want to give you the chance to get paid while doing it as I did. This is not clickbait and it really did work for me. Please note – I am NOT a lawyer! Just a regular person who was working retail when someone tried to do me harm, which is ultimately what I believed enabled me to collect unemployment. If you're like I was, this situation is already attainable for you…

My boss got annoyed because I asked for a raise that would bring me to market value.

I accepted the offer in early 2021, despite the salary being lower than I wanted. But I figured if I worked hard and showed them my value, then it would be reflected in the annual merit increase. Flash forward 10 months later, I am given a great evaluation from my boss and the head of the department, with them noting various accomplishments I achieved and my contributions. They then tell me that my raise, which is less than 2%, and it immediately killed any positive vibes I had. I started looking for a new job right away and found something a few weeks later. I received the offer and then informed my boss that I was leaving. He asked why, which of course I pointed out the paltry raise, and he asked what it would take for me to stay. I gave him a number and a request to work…

I lied on my resume and got a 45% wage increase. You should too.

I’ve been a skilled laborer for a huge portion of my life. Basically since 200X. I work in a unique field, telecommunications specially pertaining to fiber optics. I’ve worked with my body, and I am done. I went to college, it took me double the normal time to get my degree, which was not exactly the degree I told them. Anyway. I got real tired of only making $2X.00 an hour (which is good..ish) So I went and applied to some new jobs, I made up all sorts of experience. AutoCad, Revit, BIM, etc etc etc. My only demand was pay. Now I’m a project manager for multiple projects, I’m clearing 110k a year after bonuses, great benefits, great environment, great people. This is some bullshit humblebrag stuff, I’m proud of where I am. BUT, go get it, go out and lie your ass off to get in the door.…

Damn that was close

I work for Smithfield foods at there Kansas City factory, I run one of the slicer bays. I have 8 to 10 slicers to run at any given time and yesterday I almost had my hand cut open by one, when I hit the stop button (this machine the auto stop was broken) it stopped like it should then when I grabbed the ham it started back up and almost got my hand scared the shit out of me. I flagged my team lead down and showed him and told him I refuse to touch it till they fix it or get me a replacement machine. And he gave me a look like I was crazy till he saw it and his eyes were about as wide as the grand canyon as he pressed the stop button 5 or 6 times and nothing it kept restarting it's self

Recent training class at work on telecommuting. Basically it was designed to ensure we can not possibly telecomute and if we did you’d better still be paying for daycare

Had a class recently on telecommuting. Now keep in mind we were sent home to work for a year. We were made to keep logs of our activities each day and account for our time. Upon our return those that couldn't telecommute harassed us for weeks over us getting to stay at home while they “actually worked”… (we were working but i digress) They held a class that outlined the new and improved rules for telecommuting and it included a few slides on how caring for your children (or elder care) while telecommuting was not allowed. Last year it was perfectly fine, so long as you were still productive. The next few power point slides detailed how if you work from home you must be MORE productive than in the office and your telecommuting contract can be canceled with no notice. You know you get a call that says you…

It’s time to quit

I'm ready now. I wasn't before, but I am now. I don't even really understand how the fuck I got here. I made the mistake of getting my personal life a little too closely involved with my working life, and that makes it hard to let go. I'm still not 100% sure what I'm going to do, but I'm ready to not be here anymore. I make $12.50 without any benefits to “manage” everything in what I would consider a somewhat hazardous occupation. I'm in charge of a small team of 3-5 people. 15 people have left or been fired in the last 2 years. I worked really well with the most recent guy who's leaving next week, but he's trying to support a family of four on wages similar to mine and he just can't afford to work here. I can't afford to work here. My boss is verbally…

Grosses me out that there’s not only a dress code for our seriously underpaid teachers but that the principal needed to explain why jeans are occasionally appropriate (she’s a great principal but this is a crappy thing to read)

Life has changed! Full time WFH obtained for myself and my team!

Apologies for essay. Tl;dr at the bottom. We've experienced a looming threat of eventually returning to office for 2 years now. Company continued to say it was only temporary. Doesn't care that they didn't pay us for months then had us on part time for the longest time (with fortnightly rosters for salaried staff???) pretty much ensuring we had zero security and causing all sorts of anxiety. They don't care we're more efficient now than ever before with increased workloads due to downsizing (supply chain work). They believe the status quo of 3 years ago is still relevant… They don't seem to get that life has moved on without them and we've had to make sacrifices and move away and make quite literally life changing decisions to survive and yet the narrative has always been 'temporary WFH' and continues to be that way. Sure, I'll just uproot my life for…

I quit my job and started my own company as a competitor.

When I started at this company I intended for it to be the last one I worked for. The company as a whole was great to work for. Great benefits, one of the highest paid shops in the area, a CEO who seemed to genuinely care for his workers. 2 years in I couldn’t stand my boss. He tried to micromanage everything, got mad when I called in because of a family emergency, broke my company property while I was gone then lied to my face and upper management about it. They believed him over me since he’d been there 20 years of course. Our parts and sales department couldn’t stand him, he never did his job and tried to get everyone to do it for him. I decided I was done. Bought my own service truck, ran it on the side for awhile. During this a video surfaced of…
