This evening, a brand new employee at our grocery store came in for their second ever shift. They said they were feeling like they might pass out. I had them sit down on some boxes we had in back and asked them a few questions. Then I suddenly thought, this is a low paying wage job. They might be starving. So I asked them if I could get them a slice of pizza, but they said they couldn’t eat pizza. How about rice? They asked, what kind? I asked, fried rice? They said yes. So I went to the kitchen, I got a small bowl of rice from the server, I went to the check out, got the plastic fork and a cup for water, I said, this is for a hungry employee who is about to pass out, and no one said a word. Hi guys. I’m so heavy-hearted. I worked so hard for such little pay for my local newsroom. I’ve talked about it in posts and never thought it’d reach this point. I was asked to send along analytics to my editor and publisher, they themselves requested it, so they can see what is popular. I did so. Then this happened. My editor calls me and starts telling me how dare I tell her what news to report on. I calmly told her it was just a recommendation based on the analytics. She started screaming at me that she’s the one who chooses the news. This was the third day in a row she has screamed, and I’m not exaggerating when I say she actually was screaming at me. We had a team meeting today and lots of surprising changes. The company stated how well they did the past two years and wanted to thank all the employees that stuck with them through the tuff times. They invested in technology that makes the normal 40 hour work week unnecessary. Some of the reasonable work accommodations that should be the bare minimum for all humans. 1- Got an 12 percent raise. 2- 4 day work week.from 5 days 3- 4 hours at work and 4 hours from home to do individual work. 4- 5 weeks paid vacation instead of 4 5- 8.5 percent 410k match instead of 5% 6- Work will pay for a car lease and insurance must be a Chevy . Me and my coworker walked out today
Long story short, our one manager has made our simple enjoyable job working with animals absolute hell. Constantly rude, not caring about our safety, ignoring what we tell her. My coworker put her two weeks in yesterday and I was going to put mine in today until our manager decided to start the day by being a complete bitch to us. So at the busiest time of the day, we went up the HR, told her that we were quitting because of that manger, handed in our keycards and left. Now both their full time client care team members are gone , and they’re left with 3 part timers. Guess they should have treated us better
