Holy shit I think I just dogged a bullet. I've been looking at my options and job shopping. Got to look at their handbook and policies. If you're late, for example, you start at 11am and are 30 minutes late, you'll be paid minimum wage for 30 minutes to “make up” for being late. Minimum wage is $9.30 in my state yall!! Same with calling off, if you don't find your own replacement for your shift, your whole next shift is paid at minimum wage! How is this legal and what are they smoking to think this is ok?
Eight Questions Employers Should Not Ask
Thought you all might find this interesting and informative. Knowledge is power. #1 “Do you have family members who have COVID-19 or symptoms associated with COVID-19?” The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) prohibits employers from asking employees medical questions about family members. Employers are permitted to ask employees whether they have had contact with anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 or who may have symptoms associated with the disease. #2: “We really need to finish this project and money is tight. Do you mind working off the clock for a little while? We'll make it up to you later.” Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), employers must pay non-exempt employees for all the time they spend working. Employers can't allow these employees to work without getting paid, even if they provide time off in place of payment (a practice prohibited by the FLSA in the private sector and typically referred to…
Hey guys, I don’t feel like I have a very good “work ethic”. I get overwhelmed and exhausted easily (I work at a school) and then take a day or 2 off work while feeling really guilty the entire time only for the cycle to repeat. I’ve tried office jobs as well and those were slightly better but I still had days where I was so overwhelmed that I took a few days off while feeling very guilty the whole time. I’m not good at showing up every day, every week and the thought of having to do that for a job for the rest of my life (till I retire) terrifies me. Am I a bad person with no work ethic? Am I doing the wrong jobs? Am I just lazy? I feel like a terrible person for not showing up to work everyday. Note- I have several mental…
Applications
Not only are the jobs we’re applying for offensively low in wages, but the application processes are the biggest pains. I have to make an account, then give my sexual, racial, cultural, and military background (which I don’t understand, especially for common jobs like customer service), turn in my resume THEN rewrite it in the application, and so much more. The only ones I understand are background checks and eligibility to work/age. Other than that, most are unnecessary and I honestly wish paper resumes were still relevant so they could just look over my resume, see if I’m an eligible fit due to my skills and/or experience, contact me via phone or email for an interview then either hire me or let me know that they’re going in another direction. It shouldn’t be that difficult to apply for a job. I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re eventually charged to apply…
Assaulted by coworker outcome
I was being harassed by a coworker that has 10 inches and 100 pounds on me while I was doing my job and he was fucking off as usual. I told him to fuck off and was attacked. I didn't fight back as usually the cameras and hr combine for a ko termination on both people if both are seen punching. I reported it to law enforcement. I used all my pto during the investigation suspension. I now am being transferred and have a looming unpaid suspension of unknown length that can drop at any time. Oh and for some reason they think that I'll be plowing snow for them this week.
This sounds like such a great offer
Dodged a bullet
I had an interview with a company three weeks ago for a desktop support position. I've worked in data centers on server hardware, I've been a system Admin, and I've done desktop support in the past. The guy interviewing me was a good 25 minutes late to that interview. They got back to me a week later saying I was overqualified for the position and that they had chosen another candidate. They reached out to me early last week about interviewing for a similar position (still in the it support realm). I said why not and had scheduled the interview. My work ended up running way over and I missed the interview time. Had no further contact from anyone in that company, until today. I get a call today, I screen it first then decide to answer it since I didn't recognize the name but it was regarding an interview.…
